Facilities Operations Technician - Mechanical

Primary responsibilities: 

• Define and improve mechanical and HVAC architectures for high-availability environments 
• Lead complex troubleshooting, incident investigations, and root-cause analysis 
• Develop standards for cooling redundancy, controls integration, equipment selection, and system performance 
• Support capacity planning, retrofits, liquid cooling, and efficiency projects 
• Review vendors, commissioning criteria, and operational handoffs 
• Partner with procurement, facilities, engineering, and construction teams 
• Improve standardization, performance, and total cost of ownership 
• Strong LOTO and Safety understanding  

Ideal background: 

• Extensive experience with mission-critical mechanical systems 
• Deep knowledge of chilled-water plants, large-tonnage cooling systems, CRAH/CRAC equipment, controls, and redundancy 
• Ability to guide critical technical decisions and mentor technicians 
• LOTO safety  
• Experience reviewing commissioning plans, sequences of operation, maintenance strategies, and failure modes 

Preferred qualifications: 

• Advanced mechanical trade qualification 
• EPA Section 608 where applicable 
• Relevant ASHRAE credentials 
• Uptime Institute ATD 
• OEM training on chillers, cooling towers, controls, CRAH/CRAC platforms, or liquid cooling

What is this person? 

The Mechanical IC5 is the senior cooling/mechanical expert for the data center. Data centers generate a huge amount of heat, so this person makes sure the cooling and mechanical infrastructure stays reliable and efficient. They are the person brought in for complex problems, equipment failures, root-cause analysis, system improvements, commissioning, and major technical decisions.
