Job Title: Calibration Technician (Level 2Senior)

Job Description

This onsite Calibration Technician role supports a large life sciences manufacturing facility in Concord, NC, performing complex calibrations and preventive maintenance in a highly regulated, construction-heavy environment. You will ensure critical process, utility, and laboratory instruments operate within defined standards, directly supporting the production of medications and life science products. The position offers opportunities from Level 2 through Senior, with clear paths for growth, exposure to greenfield facility builds, and the chance to work on a wide variety of equipment and calibration challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled calibrations, qualifications, and preventive maintenance (PMs) on process, utility, manufacturing, and selected laboratory instruments with high accuracy and within required timelines.
  • Complete all calibration activities in compliance with GxP requirements, following site-specific policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Conduct loop checks and calibrations for temperature, pressure, humidity, and pH on a variety of equipment, ensuring all readings meet established limits and parameters.
  • Perform flow, conductivity, pH, mass, and dimensional calibrations with guidance, expanding capability across multiple measurement disciplines.
  • Handle, operate, and maintain company and client test equipment and standards, ensuring proper care, storage, and traceability of all instruments and tools.
  • Learn to troubleshoot instrumentation issues and perform basic repairs, while focusing the majority of time on scheduled calibrations and maintenance events.
  • Assess project safety risks proactively and ensure all work complies with client site safety requirements, including lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices.
  • Interpret P&IDs, instrumentation diagrams, and related documentation to plan and execute calibration and maintenance tasks accurately.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate calibration reports and records, referencing applicable standards, limits, and parameters, and maintain high quality and completeness in all documentation.
  • Support quality system expectations by applying basic GMP principles and life science industry regulations in daily work.
  • Collaborate with client personnel and internal team members, communicating clearly about work status, issues, and recommended solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with client teams, understanding their environments and requirements to propose and implement effective calibration solutions.
  • For more experienced levels, provide guidance and informal leadership to less experienced technicians, helping to coordinate work and uphold safety and quality standards.
  • For 2nd shift roles, train initially on 1st shift and then lead 2nd shift calibration activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all tasks.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of calibration experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing loop checks and calibrations for temperature, pressure, humidity, and pH.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment and process instrumentation.
  • Experience with process equipment, utilities, and some laboratory instruments.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to produce very detailed and accurate calibration reports that reference standards, limits, and parameters.
  • Ability to interpret and work from P&IDs and related technical documentation.
  • Basic understanding and application of GMPs and life science industry regulations.
  • Basic understanding and application of instrument, equipment, and loop calibrations across manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
  • Expanded understanding of traceability, substitution of standards, and test accuracy and uncertainty ratios.
  • Expanded understanding of calibration concepts and requirements, including accuracy testing requirements.
  • Ability to make independent decisions within a defined scope of work and seek clarification when needed.
  • Self-driven mindset with the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills when working with clients and coworkers.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical panels and associated safety practices.
  • Willingness to work fully onsite in a construction-heavy, greenfield facility environment.
  • For supervisory/2nd shift lead roles, prior supervisory or lead experience in a calibration or similar technical environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of calibration experience required; opportunities available up to 10 years of experience (Level 2, Level 3).
  • 12 years of pharmaceutical experience preferred, or equivalent experience from a highly regulated environment.
  • Military experience in instrumentation, metrology, or a related technical field is highly valued and translates well to this role.
  • Experience with 420 mA transmitters and loop calibrations is preferred.
  • Experience with signal generators, lockout/tagout procedures, and P&IDs is beneficial.
  • Experience in automotive, military, or HVAC technical roles that involved calibration or instrumentation work is considered relevant.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a strong plus; OSHA 10 training can be provided if not already held.
  • A two-year degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or another related technical field, or equivalent military training, combined with two years of applicable metrology, instrumentation, or calibration experience, is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience in metrology, instrumentation, or calibration are considered.
  • Quality system or pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely in construction or industrial environments.
  • Interest in career growth through exposure to complex calibrations, greenfield facility builds, and site expansions.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role at a greenfield life sciences manufacturing facility in Concord, NC, currently characterized by a very heavy construction presence. The environment requires constant safety awareness, adherence to site safety rules, and comfort working around active construction activities. You will work with a broad range of process, utility, manufacturing, and laboratory instruments, including temperature, pressure, humidity, pH, flow, and other measurement systems, as well as 420 mA transmitters and associated electrical panels. The position includes 1st shift roles and 2nd shift roles, with 2nd shift team members initially training on 1st shift before transitioning to lead responsibilities on 2nd shift. OSHA safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and use of test and standards equipment are integral parts of daily work. Steel-toed boots are required on site, and reimbursement is available for this footwear. The role offers exposure to complex calibrations, greenfield builds, and site expansions, providing a dynamic environment with varied client processes rather than repetitive work on a single system.
