About South Florida Nephrology Consultants, P.L.
At South Florida Nephrology Consultants, P.L., we are a premier single-specialty nephrology practice dedicated to delivering the highest quality care for patients managing acute and chronic kidney disease, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), and hypertension. Utilizing a collaborative, team-based care model across our office clinics, local hospital systems (including Memorial Healthcare System), and outpatient dialysis facilities, our goal is to engage patients through education, leverage modern medical technology, and optimize health outcomes.
Position Summary
The Nephrology Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting our physician team (Drs. Hashmi, Leventhal, Rodriguez, and Tran) and staff. This position combines support of patient care with administrative practice operations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care—helping deliver comprehensive care from routine clinic visits to complex dialysis and pre-/post-kidney transplant management.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care Support
- Clinical Intake & Vitals: Accurately measure and document vital signs, height, weight, and detailed medical and medication histories in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Lab & Diagnostic Review: Systematically review laboratory results, flag critical values, and bring urgent reports to the attention of attending physicians promptly.
- Specialized Nephrology & Dialysis Care: Assist physicians with clinical care plans spanning Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), hypertension, acute kidney injury, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplant care (pre- and post-transplant).
- Patient Education & Engagement: Educate patients and caregivers on self-care, medication compliance, diet/lifestyle adjustments, and preparation for specialized renal testing or dialysis modalities.
- Clinic Maintenance: Prepare, restock, and thoroughly sanitize exam rooms between patient visits to ensure a safe, efficient environment.
Administrative & Practice Operations
- Patient Communication & Portal Management: Answer clinic telephones, manage patient inquiries, and assist patients through the practice’s secure online Patient Portal (including record requests and communication intake).
- Scheduling & Authorization: Coordinate patient appointment scheduling, process prescription refill requests, and handle insurance verifications and prior authorizations.
- Front-Desk & Team Support: Support front-desk operations and office administrative workflows as part of our integrated team-care model.
- Multi-Site Support: Travel as needed to support coverage across practice clinic locations throughout South Florida.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent credential.
- Proficiency in clinical intake, accurate vital sign measurement, and medical terminology.
- Experience navigating and documenting within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
- Flexibility to travel occasionally to secondary clinic locations across the South Florida area.
Preferred:
- 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a specialized nephrology, or internal medicine setting.
- Familiarity with nephrology-specific conditions (CKD, ESRD, hypertension, dialysis modalities, and transplant care).
- Experience handling insurance authorizations, prior approvals, prescription refill, and review of medication.
- Proficiency or fluency in Spanish is a strong plus (supporting our diverse South Florida community).
