About the Role
We’re hiring an experienced Rotating Equipment Mechanic to inspect, repair, and reassemble pumps and other rotating equipment. Work includes shop repairs and local field assignments at vessels, shipyards, plants, and terminals. The right candidate has hands-on pump repair experience, strong measurement skills, and the ability to work safely in both settings.
Responsibilities
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, recondition, and reassemble centrifugal, vertical turbine, split-case, positive-displacement, and other pumps.
- Repair and overhaul gearboxes, winches, marine anchor windlasses, capstans, and similar machinery.
- Measure shafts, bearing fits, bores, wear rings, clearances, runout, and endplay; compare measurements with OEM specifications.
- Identify worn, damaged, or failed components and document findings with notes and photos.
- Install bearings, mechanical seals, packing, couplings, and wear parts using proper tools and methods.
- Troubleshoot, remove, install, and align equipment in the field, including startup support.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, and work orders.
- Coordinate with machinists on parts requiring machining and confirm fits before assembly.
- Use precision, hand, and power tools, rigging, and material handling equipment safely.
- Keep the work area clean and follow safety and quality procedures.
- Support planned, after-hours, weekend, or emergency repairs when needed.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on pump and rotating equipment repair experience in a shop or field setting.
- Proven experience disassembling, inspecting, reconditioning, and assembling pumps.
- Experience with gearboxes, winches, marine windlasses, or similar machinery.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, bearings, seals, fits, and clearances.
- Skilled with micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics.
- Willingness to work in the shop and at field locations, including aboard vessels and in shipyards.
- Valid driver’s license; TWIC card or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and work in heat, confined spaces, and at heights.
- Marine or industrial repair experience is preferred. Heat exchanger and shaft alignment experience is a plus.
Work examples required: Applicants must be able to provide examples of their own repair work, such as photos with descriptions, inspection sheets, measurement records, job reports, or references who can confirm their experience. This is an experienced professional role, not an entry-level or apprentice position.
