This full-time Environmental Field Technician role is based in Cincinnati, Ohio and supports a wide range of environmental projects across the Midwest, primarily within Ohio. The position focuses on brownfield redevelopment programs and involves working with federal, state, and commercial clients. You will perform field investigations, sampling, and site assessments while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams. The role suits a detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills who can work both independently and as part of a team in dynamic field environments.

  • Support underground storage tank (UST) closure and corrective action investigations, including field oversight and documentation of closure and remediation activities.
  • Log soil cores and classify soils using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) to support subsurface characterization and reporting.
  • Provide field oversight and management of subcontractors during completion of geophysical surveys and private utility clearances.
  • Oversee drilling activities and the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, and soil gas probes, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Provide field oversight during excavation and other remedial activities, documenting progress, conditions, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Conduct asbestos and lead-based paint surveys in buildings and structures, following applicable protocols and safety procedures.
  • Provide field oversight during asbestos and lead-based paint abatement activities to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Provide technical support in the areas of emergency response, removal assessment, and removal action, including field investigations and documentation.
  • Maintain a rotating on-call readiness schedule to respond to environmental emergencies and provide remedial and restoration guidance and solutions to clients.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with vendors, clients, and subcontractors to coordinate field activities, resolve issues, and ensure successful project execution.
  • Prepare clear and accurate field notes, logs, and supporting documentation to support technical reports and project deliverables.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of environmental consulting experience in site assessments and/or remediation.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting environmental site assessments, including Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments.
  • Hands-on experience with soil sampling, groundwater sampling, sediment sampling, drinking water sampling, soil gas sampling, and indoor air sampling.
  • Experience supporting environmental remediation projects, including field oversight of remedial activities and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge and practical use of the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) for logging and classifying soil cores.
  • Ability to provide field support for emergency response, removal assessment, and removal action activities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various project sites throughout Ohio and the broader Midwest region.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Valid Hazwoper 40-hour certification.
  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science or a closely related field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on brownfield redevelopment programs and related environmental projects.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and commercial environmental contracts and associated requirements.
  • Experience in environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline supporting field investigations and remediation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple field tasks, documentation, and schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently in the field and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Attention to detail in recording field observations, sample information, and subcontractor activities.
  • Interest in contributing to projects that support innovation, sustainability, and positive community impact in areas such as water, environment, energy, and international development.

Work Environment

This role is almost entirely field-based, with approximately 100% of the time spent working at project sites rather than in an office. You will travel regularly to sites throughout Ohio and potentially across the broader Midwest, with occasional overnight stays in hotels as project needs require. Fieldwork takes place outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and site settings, including active construction areas, brownfield locations, and other environmental project sites. You will use standard environmental sampling equipment, monitoring instruments, and field logging tools while following strict health, safety, and environmental protocols.
