Position Overview

A growing orthopedic spine surgery practice in Manhattan is seeking a motivated, experienced, and patient-focused Physician Assistant (PA) to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for a PA with an interest in spine surgery who enjoys both clinical office responsibilities and assisting in the operating room.

The selected candidate will work closely with the orthopedic spine surgeon to provide comprehensive patient care, support surgical procedures, and help coordinate treatment plans from initial consultation through postoperative recovery.

Key Responsibilities

Office-Based Patient Care

  • Evaluate patients during office visits, obtain medical histories, and perform physical examinations within the PA's scope of practice.
  • Assess patients presenting with neck pain, back pain, spinal conditions, and related orthopedic complaints.
  • Review imaging studies, including MRI, CT scans, and X-rays, in collaboration with the surgeon.
  • Assist with treatment planning and discuss care recommendations with patients.
  • Conduct preoperative evaluations and postoperative follow-up visits.
  • Monitor patient progress and address postoperative concerns.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, medical clearances, and follow-up appointments.
  • Communicate with patients, attorneys, and other healthcare providers when appropriate and authorized.

Operating Room Responsibilities

  • Assist the orthopedic spine surgeon during surgical procedures.
  • Participate in preoperative preparation and postoperative patient management.
  • Coordinate surgical scheduling and ensure required documentation, clearances, and diagnostic studies are available.
  • Collaborate with operating room staff and other members of the surgical team.

Clinical Coordination

  • Help coordinate patient care between the office, surgical facility, and other providers.
  • Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical preparation, and recovery.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and support efficient office operations.

Qualifications

  • Current New York State Physician Assistant license and registration.
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current NCCPA certification, as applicable to New York State licensure requirements.
  • Previous experience in orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, neurosurgery, or a related specialty preferred.
  • Operating room experience and familiarity with surgical procedures strongly preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and clinical documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a growing, fast-paced specialty practice.
  • Professional demeanor and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is clinically confident, compassionate, organized, and comfortable working in both an outpatient office and an operating room. A candidate with established orthopedic or spine surgery experience who can contribute to both surgical assistance and day-to-day patient care is strongly preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits and other employment details will be discussed during the interview process.
