This hands-on position offers exposure to complex real estate partnerships, investment structures, multi-state filings, investor reporting, and special projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual income tax returns (Form 1040) for firm principals.
  • Develop and maintain tax workpapers, basis calculations, capital account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare multi-state tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments; track tax estimates, refunds, and credits across entities.
  • Prepare state composite returns and nonresident withholding filings, and assist with evaluating and preparing applicable pass-through entity tax (PTET) elections.
  • Assist with NYC Real Property Income and Expense (RPIE) filings, including gathering financial information and coordinating with property management and accounting teams.
  • Respond to investor and advisor questions regarding K-1s, state filing requirements, and tax reporting packages.
  • Assist with tax notices, coordinate with external CPA firms, and maintain organized tax records.
  • Conduct tax research using Checkpoint, CCH, or similar platforms and document findings.
  • Collaborate with accounting, investor relations, acquisitions, and legal teams on tax-related matters.
  • Support improvements to tax compliance processes and software utilization.
  • Maintain compliance calendars to ensure filing, extension, and payment deadlines are met.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; master’s degree in Taxation preferred.
  • 2–5 years of post-college public accounting experience preferred, ideally serving real estate clients, partnerships, or investment entities.
  • Strong understanding of partnership taxation, including Subchapter K, Form 1065, Schedules K-1, and multi-state compliance.
  • Experience preparing individual income tax returns.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • CCH Axcess experience strongly preferred; experience with ProSystem fx or comparable software is also relevant.
  • CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Willingness to work additional hours during peak tax compliance periods, particularly around the March 15 and September 15 deadlines.

  • Schedule: In office Monday–Thursday, with flexibility to work from home on Fridays
