Greenhouse Technician

The Greenhouse Technician supports controlled-environment agricultural research through greenhouse operations, plant care, plant tissue sampling, and high-volume sample tracking. This role performs routine experimental tasks accurately, maintains sample integrity, collects research data, and upholds safety, sanitation, and compliance standards. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM.

Responsibilities

• Perform greenhouse operations and daily plant care for corn, soybean, wheat, and other crops.
• Punch or cut, store, and deliver plant tissue samples for laboratory analysis while maintaining sample identity and proper storage conditions.
• Track high volumes of samples accurately throughout collection, storage, and delivery.
• Seed and transplant plantlets into flats and pots according to assignment details.
• Transfer plants between greenhouses and workstations for processing.
• Assist with experiments, collect research data, and maintain accurate records.
• Perform greenhouse sanitation tasks, including regulated material disposal, waste destruction, cleaning, and room sanitization.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to standard operating procedures and safety and ergonomics protocols.
• Effective communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Ability to stand and sit for extended periods, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks in a warm, humid greenhouse environment with year-round pollen.

Preferred Qualifications

• Entry-level experience in greenhouse operations or controlled-environment agriculture.
• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant physiology, molecular biology, or a related field, or three or more years of related experience.
• Experience with plant biology research workflows and sample tracking at scale.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn internal research software.
