CONTRACT-TO-HIRE

Location: Worden, IL
Compensation: $35–$45 per hour, plus overtime; prevailing wage applies to qualifying Illinois state and public works projects
Travel: 100% travel, primarily throughout Illinois, with periodic out-of-state assignments
Schedule: Full-time, with overtime and overnight stays based on project needs

ParkerBeth Search Partners is partnering with an established solar energy company to identify an O&M Field Service Technician supporting solar installations throughout Illinois.

This role combines hands-on electrical work, solar system maintenance, and technical troubleshooting. You’ll travel between sites to diagnose equipment issues, complete preventive and corrective maintenance, and help keep solar installations operating safely and efficiently.

Alongside electrical and photovoltaic (PV) systems, you’ll troubleshoot telecommunications and networking equipment, which accounts for approximately 40% of troubleshooting work. Experience with IT, networking, or communications systems will be especially valuable.

This opportunity suits a technician who enjoys independent field work, takes ownership of daily priorities, and is comfortable with substantial road time and overnight travel.

What Makes This Opportunity Worth Considering

  • Competitive hourly pay: $35–$45 per hour, plus overtime and prevailing wage on qualifying projects.
  • Independent field responsibility: Manage daily assignments and site priorities with support from the O&M team.
  • Company-paid training: Access solar certifications and NFPA 70E training to strengthen your technical skills.
  • Travel support: Company-covered hotels and meal allowances for overnight assignments.
  • Health insurance benefits: Coverage offered as part of the benefits package.
  • Varied technical work: Build experience across solar equipment, electrical systems, and communications infrastructure.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on solar PV systems, inverters, and related electrical equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment faults, system performance issues, and telecommunications or networking problems.
  • Read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical drawings, and system schematics.
  • Support electrical system commissioning and testing while following established procedures.
  • Complete accurate field reports, Job Safety Analyses, and maintenance documentation.
  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, and internal team members to communicate findings and resolve service issues.
  • Follow safety procedures and equipment requirements while maintaining quality under demanding schedules.
  • Independently organize assignments, prioritize service needs, and communicate progress to the O&M Manager.
  • Travel daily throughout the assigned territory, including overnight stays and periodic assignments outside Illinois.

What You Bring

  • 1–2 years of solar experience and 2+ years of construction experience.
  • Hands-on familiarity with PV systems, grid-tied equipment, electrical wiring, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret single-line diagrams and system schematics.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and safe practices around energized systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently across multiple sites.
  • Clear communication and a professional approach to customer interactions.
  • Attention to detail when completing inspections, safety documentation, and field reports.
  • A clean driving record and willingness to meet the role’s 100% travel requirement.
  • Ability to meet fieldwork demands, including climbing ladders, lifting up to 100 pounds, and working in challenging environments.

Additional experience with IT, networking, telecommunications, or HVAC systems is a plus.

The Team

This position reports to the Quality O&M Manager and works closely with customers, vendors, and field personnel. You’ll have responsibility for daily field execution, backed by technical support and ongoing training.
