About this job
This role focuses on manual TIG and MIG welding of stainless steel automotive and heavy-duty exhaust systems, including repair welding of parts coming off robotic weld cells. You will independently perform high-quality production welding, support robotic welding operations when manual demand is lower, and help ensure that all components meet strict customer specifications in a fast-paced, clean manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Perform manual TIG and MIG welding on stainless steel exhaust systems ranging from 1/8" to 1/2" thick, including 1"2" tubes and larger assemblies up to approximately 7" wide.
- Carry out low-volume production welding of exhaust systems for automotive and heavy-duty applications, ensuring all welds meet defined quality and customer specifications.
- Inspect and repair welds on parts coming off robotic weld machines, including MIG and spot weld repairs, so components meet quality standards before shipment to customers.
- Operate, set up, and maintain manual production welding equipment used for joining metal components using defined welding processes.
- Monitor weld quality throughout production, complete required production and quality paperwork, and maintain an organized and safe work area.
- Meet fast-paced production requirements while consistently following established safety and quality procedures.
- When manual welding demand is lower, operate robotic weld machines and Continuous Resistance Welders as part of the production process.
- Learn to troubleshoot robotic weld machines and assist in training operators on proper setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting of robotic weld equipment.
- Work collaboratively with team members in tube bending, tube assembly, manufacturing, and shipping areas to support overall production flow.
- Adhere to all personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety requirements at all times while working in the plant.
- At least 2 years of TIG welding experience in a production or similar environment.
- A minimum of 1 year of stainless steel welding experience on material thicknesses of 1/8", 1/4", and 1/2".
- Proficiency in TIG welding techniques, including consistent bead quality and adherence to weld procedures.
- Experience with MIG welding and repair welding on stainless steel components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to perform accurate welds and assemblies.
- Capability to operate manual welding equipment independently, including setup, adjustment, and basic maintenance.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with production targets and quality standards.
- Willingness and ability to perform multiple functions, including manual welding, operating robotic weld stations, and supporting other equipment as needed.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and PPE requirements in an industrial setting.
- 35 years of TIG welding experience is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with robotic welding systems, including operation and basic troubleshooting, is a plus.
- Exposure to Continuous Resistance Welders and automated welding equipment is beneficial.
- Familiarity with automated tube benders, welding machines, and material handling robots.
- Experience in automotive or heavy-duty exhaust system manufacturing is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of Allen Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff PLC-controlled equipment for troubleshooting is helpful.
- Strong attention to detail and quality, with the ability to identify and correct weld defects.
- Ability to adapt to changing production needs and take on different tasks within the welding and manufacturing process.

Work EnvironmentThis position is based in a modern manufacturing facility dedicated to producing metal exhaust systems for automotive and heavy-duty manufacturers. The work involves tube bending, tube assembly, welding, and shipping in a fast-paced yet clean and well-maintained environment. Some areas of the plant are consistently loud due to machinery, and employees should be comfortable working around ongoing equipment noise. Production operations use automated tube benders, welding machines, ABB and other material handling robots, conveyors, and PLC-controlled equipment from platforms such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff. The role is available on two shifts: first shift typically runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, with overtime, when needed, on Fridays; second shift typically runs Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m, with potential Friday overtime when required. The dress code requires compliance with all PPE and safety standards. Employees must provide and wear their own steel-toe shoes at all times in the plant, while safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection are provided. This environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and efficient production while giving employees exposure to advanced welding and automation technology.
