Job Description

One of Robert Half Legal's best clients - the legal department in a Fortune 50 company's subsidiary - is seeking an in-house employment law counsel, focused on labor & employment law compliance. This role is transactional in nature, but a litigation background is helpful. For now, the position requires being onsite daily in Irvine (near airport).

This counsel will be responsible for identifying employment & labor law issues, bringing them to resolution, and managing the fix (in conjunction with different internal teams & occasionally outside counsel). Pay is contingent upon years of experience doing this independently, but the company is targeting 2-8 (no more, no less).

Perks of Company:

  • I have placed 6/9 people in the legal department. All are still there, happy, and thriving!
  • “This team is so good about picking up slack, and nobody says, ‘this isn’t my job.’ They just get it done! That has made for such a good culture. That’s what we want to continue to cultivate. The team we’ve built is 100% the best part of my job.” – AGC
  • This company is a subsidiary of a multi-billion, Fortune 50 company. They have the resources of a big company with the benefits of a smaller company (autonomy, not much bureaucracy, autonomy).
  • Lots of ownership and growth. For someone who is a go-getter, this is a great place to be!
  • Free gym membership (you get 9 options of local gyms!).
  • Cell phone and laptop provided by company (for company work, even though it’s 100% in office)
  • The GC is young, kind and has high standards of excellence. The AGC is similar, down to earth and trusting. “We are very proud of the teams we are building. The culture is a thing we take very seriously!”
  • Company is rolling out some aggressive ESG goals (100% landfill waste elimination by 2030)
  • 2-8 years of employment law experience in CA
  • Ability to advise HR and operations teams on labor laws, such as hiring & firing
  • Ability to identify issues and roadmap solutions on labor compliance issues
  • Get it done personality – not a bulldog, but someone who moves things along
  • Someone who can be a good mentor to paralegals, who does not look down on staff.
