Be the calm in someone's worst moment. Heritage Behavioral Health Center is hiring a part-time, overnight Crisis Clinician for our Mobile Crisis Response Team. You'll respond in person to children, adults, and families in a mental health or substance use crisis, helping them get safe, stabilized, and connected to care. You'll never respond alone: you're paired with a Recovery Support Specialist, with an on-call Crisis Supervisor just a phone call away.
Pay and Schedule
Pay is based on education and licensure:
- Mental Health Professional (MHP): $23.00/hour
- Bachelor's Degree + MHP: $25.00/hour
- Master's Degree: $28.85/hour
- Master's Degree + Licensure (LPC, LSW, LCPC, or LCSW): $30.77/hour
Schedule: Part-time, 3rd shift (overnight), 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., up to 3 nights per week. May include a weekend or holiday rotation.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- A two-person team model, so you often have a partner in the field
- Consultation from an on-call Crisis Supervisor and Substance Use Consultant whenever you need it
- Work that matters: helping people stay safe and avoid unnecessary hospitalization
- Variety: every shift is different, from homes to emergency departments to community settings
- A part-time schedule that leaves room for school, family, or other commitments
- Mileage reimbursement at the IRS rate for work-related travel
- Comprehensive Mobile Crisis Response Team training, including crisis de-escalation and the I-CAT
Your Role
As the clinician of a two-person Mobile Crisis Response Team, you'll provide community-based crisis intervention to people of all ages across Macon, DeWitt, and Piatt Counties. Calls come from 988, 911-to-988 transfers, the HFS CARES Line, and Heritage's crisis line. You'll respond face-to-face, by phone, or virtually, wherever the person is: at home, in an emergency department, or out in the community.
You'll work closely with the Crisis Call Center, hospitals, law enforcement, the courts, and community providers to make sure every person receives a timely, coordinated, and compassionate response.
What You'll Do
- Provide crisis intervention in person for children, adolescents, and adults
- Facilitate clinical responses alongside your Recovery Support Specialist partner
- Complete clinical assessments, including the I-CAT, substance use screening, and suicide and safety evaluations
- Provide de-escalation, safety planning, and brief counseling, and determine the least restrictive appropriate level of care
- Coordinate with hospitals, emergency services, law enforcement, and community providers to support stabilization and linkage to care
- Consult with emergency department physicians and on-call prescribers about referrals and outcomes
- Assist with involuntary admission processes for adults when needed
- Complete clinical documentation and hand off to Care Coordination for follow-up
- Participate in team debriefs and ongoing training
What You'll Bring
- Ability to stay calm, flexible, and clear-headed in high-stress, unpredictable situations
- Sound independent clinical judgment, and knowing when to call for consultation
- Knowledge of behavioral health diagnoses, including serious mental illness, substance use, and co-occurring disorders
- Understanding of psychiatric and medical services and community resources
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in the field and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Comfort with electronic health records, Microsoft Word, and Excel
Qualifications
Required:
- Mental Health Professional (MHP) qualification under Illinois Rule 140 (for example, a bachelor's degree in human services, social work, psychology, education, or a related field, or 5 years of clinical behavioral health experience)
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance
- Ability to travel throughout Macon, DeWitt, and Piatt Counties during overnight hours
Preferred:
- Master's-level Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) credential (QMHPs must obtain licensure within 2 years of employment)
- Experience in crisis services
- Familiarity with the I-CAT and Illinois Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS)
New to crisis work? If you have a strong behavioral health background, we encourage you to apply. All required crisis training is provided.
