Job Description

Job Description
Platform Engineer (Kubernetes)
On behalf of our client · San Francisco, CA, on-site · Full-time

The build: Our client is building a Kubernetes platform that abstracts the complexity away while keeping the power. You'll work with the founding team to design systems, GitOps workflows, and the infrastructure layer that makes multi-cluster management feel intuitive for developers. Early team — your architecture patterns become the platform.

What you'll do

  • Build and extend the Kubernetes platform core features in Go, including custom operators and controllers.
  • Design and implement GitOps workflows with ArgoCD to streamline continuous deployment.
  • Develop infrastructure-as-code patterns with Terraform and Helm to provision and manage clusters.
  • Work on distributed storage with Ceph and WEKA for high-performance, scalable storage.
  • Create observability and monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana to surface cluster health and performance.
  • Build and optimize container networking with Cilium for security and observability.
  • Design and implement federated Kubernetes architectures for multi-cluster management.
  • Build automation tooling to cut operational overhead for developers running production workloads.
  • Contribute to open source components and establish platform architecture patterns as an early team member.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years of software development experience.
  • Proficiency in Go and Kubernetes, with hands-on experience building developer tools or infrastructure products.
  • Experience with distributed storage such as Ceph and WEKA.
  • Proficiency with ArgoCD and experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows.
  • Experience with Terraform, Helm, and related infra provisioning tools; familiarity with Ansible or Kubespray is a plus.
  • Background with service mesh (Istio or Linkerd) or CNI plugins.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their managed Kubernetes offerings.
  • Strong foundational software development skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Contributions to Kubernetes ecosystem tools or similar open source projects.
  • Experience with containerization, networking, and cloud-native architectures.
Logistics: San Francisco, CA, on-site.
