Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Pay Rate: $35.01 per hour

Position Overview

The Prototype Build Engineer will support prototype vehicle builds by coordinating part procurement, resolving supplier issues, assisting with prototype design, and troubleshooting build-floor concerns. This position will initially focus on electrical systems, with opportunities to gain exposure to interior and exterior vehicle engineering. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to apply their technical knowledge, develop hands-on vehicle engineering experience, and collaborate with a cross-functional team.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate part procurement activities for prototype vehicle builds.
• Work with suppliers to identify and resolve part-related issues across multiple vehicle programs.
• Provide prototype design support to ensure components meet engineering specifications and functional requirements.
• Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs).
• Develop process sheets and work instructions to guide build operators through proper component installation.
• Support prototype vehicle builds on the engineering floor.
• Troubleshoot component fitment issues, electrical concerns, and other build-related problems.
• Identify and resolve issues affecting product quality, engineering design, manufacturing processes, and project timing.
• Perform root cause analysis and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for engineering teams and management.
• Collaborate with engineers, suppliers, and build operators to support successful prototype development.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; Mechanical Engineering also accepted.
• Basic understanding of vehicle build processes and prototype development.
• Familiarity with CATIA V5, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, or other CAD and engineering tools is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and support program deadlines.
• Comfortable preparing presentations and communicating technical information to various levels of management.
• Relevant internship, co-op, or hands-on engineering project experience is beneficial.

Experience Level

• Targeting recent engineering graduates and candidates with 0–3 years of relevant experience.
• Candidates with engineering internships or co-op experience are encouraged to apply.
