Registered Nurse (RN) – IMC/PCU/Stepdown (Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 31-bed Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), maintaining a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio on the Stepdown side and 1:5–6 on the EMU floor
• Care for higher-acuity neuroscience patients including those with strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EVDs; post-TPA patients are managed by permanent staff
• Implement and document NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments as part of routine stroke patient care
• Administer and monitor set-rate and protocol-driven drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin; titration performed per physician orders or approved protocols
• Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy (available 24/7) for patients on floor vents; RNs are not required to independently manage ventilators
• Participate in the holiday rotation and weekend requirements (every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule); flexibility for floating to other units may be required

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license with Stepdown-level qualification
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required — must be in hand at time of submission
• Strong, demonstrated Neuro experience including history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH Stroke Scale assessments
• EPIC EMR experience required
• COVID-19 vaccination required (fully vaccinated: 2-dose Moderna or Pfizer, or 1-dose J&J); medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted promptly for review and approval
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ACLS certification preferred
• Experience with External Ventricular Drains (EVDs)
• Familiarity with Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) patient population
• Experience working in a Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute or comparable high-acuity neuroscience environment
