Instructional Aide in Petersburg, VA

As a contract paraprofessional, you’ll play a vital part in the student’s educational journey, ensuring safety, access, and personalized care.

What you’ll bring:

• Active Virginia Paraprofessional License or proof of Associate’s Degree or higher
• Experience working as a paraprofessional or in a support role with medically complex students (preferred)
• Ability to safely lift, maneuver, and transfer the student in and out of a wheelchair, position into leg braces, and on/off mats as needed
• Strong communication skills, patience, and adaptability
• Commitment to upholding the dignity, independence, and confidentiality of the student

Your contributions:

• Provide direct 1:1 assistance throughout the school day, supporting optimal learning and participation
• Assist with physical needs, including transfers, positioning, and mobility device management
• Monitor and attend to the student’s health and safety, working closely with school staff and medical specialists
• Support class activities, following IEP and care plans
• Work on a set weekly schedule of 32 hours, based on the days the student is present (most days concluding at 2:30 pm)
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
