School Registered Nurse | West Hartford, Connecticut

Step into a meaningful role supporting student health in a school environment! A contract opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse to provide dedicated 1:1 care for a middle school student managing diabetes. Located onsite at a welcoming middle school near West Hartford, CT, this assignment runs from late October through early June, aligning with the traditional academic calendar.

You will play a crucial part in ensuring the student’s well-being during the school day and helping them fully participate in their educational experience. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:40 am to 2:30 pm, offering a predictable and consistent schedule.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Active RN license in Connecticut required
• Current BLS/CPR certification
• Prior experience working with pediatric populations, especially in a school setting, strongly preferred
• Comfort and familiarity with diabetes care practices, including blood glucose monitoring and response planning
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with school staff, teachers, families, and the student
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school environment

Responsibilities:

• Provide attentive 1:1 nursing support to a middle school student with diabetes throughout the school day
• Monitor glucose levels, administer insulin if needed, and assist with additional aspects of diabetic care
• Track health data and report updates to appropriate staff and parents
• Respond promptly to health emergencies and document interventions accurately
• Foster a supportive, reassuring atmosphere to promote the student’s independence and confidence
