Inpatient IV Sterile Compounding Staff Pharmacist | Mission, South Dakota

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, active Pharmacist license, and minimum 1+ years Pharmacist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

An opportunity is available for an experienced Inpatient Pharmacist to provide critical night-shift coverage at an Indian Health Service (IHS) hospital in Rosebud, SD. This contract position involves working within a culturally respectful IHS hospital environment, supporting inpatient pharmacy operations on 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, including a 30-minute break.

Location: Rosebud, SD (within a 3-5 hour radius of Rosebud)
Schedule:

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• 30-minute break

Key Responsibilities:

• Review medication orders along with patient labs, vitals, allergies, and charts
• Process, verify, and dispense medication and prescription orders accurately
• Prepare sterile intravenous (IV) admixtures and support inpatient medication distribution
• Counsel and educate patients regarding their medications and therapy
• Collaborate closely with providers, nurses, and pharmacy staff to optimize patient care
• Address drug therapy questions and clarify orders as needed
• Identify adverse drug reactions and respond to related emergencies promptly
• Manage refill requests and process outside prescriptions
• Perform controlled substance audits in accordance with policy
• Complete mandatory IHS training and maintain required documentation
• Provide culturally appropriate and respectful care consistent with IHS standards

Desired Qualifications:

• Active South Dakota Pharmacist license is required
• Proven experience in inpatient hospital pharmacy
• Experience with IHS or Tribal Health preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Skilled in sterile compounding and IV admixture preparation
• Proficient with electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy information systems
• Valid U.S. driver’s license
• Immunization certification preferred if administering vaccines
