Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Associate
Job Description
The Shipping and Receiving Associate supports daily warehouse operations by managing inbound and outbound shipments, maintaining accurate inventory records, and handling both physical material movement and computer-based shipping tasks. This role combines hands-on work with the use of SAP, RF scanners, and carrier systems to ensure materials flow smoothly through the facility and all shipping documentation is accurate and complete.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload incoming and outgoing materials following established warehouse and shipping processes.
- Process shipping and receiving transactions in SAP or a comparable ERP/WMS system to ensure accurate material and shipment records.
- Use an SAP-linked RF scan gun to pick, track, and confirm material movements within the warehouse.
- Perform regular cycle counts and support overall inventory accuracy by reconciling physical stock with system records.
- Prepare Bills of Lading (BOLs), verify shipment details, and obtain driver signatures to ensure proper documentation.
- Create UPS, FedEx, and USPS labels for smaller outbound shipments and ensure packages are correctly prepared for carrier pickup.
- Coordinate and call in trucks, communicate directly with drivers, and support efficient loading and unloading activities.
- Consolidate and organize skids and pallets to maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient shipping area.
- Maintain accurate shipping documentation and records, ensuring system information matches physical shipments.
- Work a consistent first-shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM and stay flexible to work overtime when truck or shipment schedules require longer days.
- Take ownership of the shipping and receiving function, manage daily workload independently, and proactively address issues related to material flow.
- Collaborate with a small warehouse team to support overall material handling, inventory control, and shipping performance.
Essential Skills
- Shipping and receiving experience, with 2+ years preferred handling inbound and outbound shipments, loading and unloading materials, verifying shipment accuracy, preparing Bills of Lading, and coordinating with truck drivers or carriers.
- Experience using SAP or another ERP/WMS system for at least 1 year is preferred, including processing material transactions, printing shipping documents and BOLs, and ensuring system data matches physical shipments.
- Inventory control experience with at least 1 year preferred, including performing cycle counts and maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Proficiency using RF scanners or scan guns for at least 1 year preferred to pick material, track inventory movements, and support cycle counting.
- Ability to create UPS, FedEx, and USPS shipping labels and follow carrier-specific procedures for smaller outbound shipments.
- Knowledge of Bills of Lading (BOLs) and shipping documentation, including verifying shipment information and obtaining driver signatures.
- Experience coordinating with truck drivers and carriers, calling in trucks, and supporting loading and unloading activities.
- Ability to consolidate and organize skids and pallets and maintain an organized shipping and receiving area.
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and organized work style, with a strong focus on accuracy in documentation and inventory.
- Comfort working independently, taking ownership of daily tasks, and staying flexible when shipment or truck schedules extend the workday.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior shipping, receiving, or general warehouse experience is preferred, but training is available for candidates who are motivated and willing to learn.
- Experience with SAP or comparable ERP/WMS systems is a plus and will be used to process shipments, pick material, and maintain accurate shipping records.
- Familiarity with RF scanners or scan guns is preferred for material picking, tracking, and inventory management.
- Experience in cycle counting and inventory control is helpful for maintaining material accuracy and supporting stock reconciliation.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation and Bills of Lading (BOLs), including verifying shipment details and capturing driver signatures, is advantageous.
- Experience creating UPS, FedEx, or USPS labels for small parcel shipments is preferred.
- Previous exposure to coordinating with truck drivers and carriers, arranging truck arrivals, and assisting with loading and unloading is beneficial.
- Key personal attributes include being dependable, detail-oriented, organized, willing to learn new systems and processes, comfortable working independently, and adaptable when schedules change.
- No specific education level or formal certifications are required for this role; candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates with more extensive shipping experience may be able to operate independently, while those with less experience can grow into the role with additional training and support.
Why Work Here?
Employees enjoy a consistent first-shift schedule with the opportunity for overtime when shipping demands increase, supporting both stability and additional earning potential. The role offers variety throughout the day, blending shipping and receiving, inventory work, material handling, SAP transactions, cycle counting, and carrier coordination rather than a single repetitive task. Team members gain hands-on experience with key warehouse technologies and processes, including SAP, RF scanners, Bills of Lading, inventory control, and UPS/FedEx/USPS shipping, helping them build valuable technical skills. There is genuine ownership and independence in the role, allowing experienced individuals to make an immediate impact while still having access to training and support. The environment promotes learning and skill development, with training available on specific systems and processes for candidates who may not yet have experience in every area.
Work Environment
The role is based in a hands-on warehouse shipping and receiving environment that combines physical material handling with computer-based shipping and inventory responsibilities. The culture favors individuals who are dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of their daily workload. You will work within a small team of approximately three people, supporting one another to keep materials and shipments moving efficiently. The standard schedule is a first-shift, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM workday, with overtime available and sometimes required depending on truck arrivals and shipment needs. Daily activities include loading and unloading trucks, organizing skids and pallets, completing shipping paperwork, performing SAP transactions, using RF scanners for picking and cycle counts, coordinating with carriers, and creating shipping labels. The dress code requires long pants, steel-toe footwear, and a normal shirt appropriate for a warehouse environment. Training is provided on specific processes and systems, so new hires can become comfortable with the technologies and workflows used in the facility.
