Job Description
Role Snapshot

Picture your shift: you clock in, review the Sample Plan, and head straight to the bench. You prep standards, verify instrument calibration, and run the first batch of analyses that will guide today’s process control and quality assurance decisions on the manufacturing floor. Your data—captured in our systems and shared with clients and internal stakeholders—keeps production on spec and operations running smoothly.

A Day in the Life

Morning: You collect samples per defined protocols, set up calibration curves, and perform routine instrument checks. If a chromatogram looks off or a spectrometer drifts, you jump into first-line troubleshooting and escalate as needed. You validate results with basic statistics, document every step, and safeguard data integrity and traceability.

Midday: You shift gears to environmental operations—conducting environmental sampling and testing to meet regulatory and company requirements. You make routine rounds at the waste treatment ponds, oversee sump routing and stormwater handling to prevent contamination, and coordinate the loading of salty water and sludge trucks. If a line or filter is clogged, you clear it and operate valves safely to restore flow.

Afternoon: You complete preventative maintenance on analytical systems, log performance trends, and recommend improvements to lab workflows and tools. Throughout the day, you model safe behaviors and adhere to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHandS) and Operating Discipline Management System (ODMS) practices—serving as an informal mentor to less experienced teammates.

What You’ll Tackle
  • Perform routine laboratory analyses for manufacturing process control and quality assurance.
  • Collect and prepare samples per the Sample Plan and established procedures.
  • Prepare calibration standards and execute basic instrument calibrations.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and keep laboratory equipment in peak condition.
  • Validate data using basic statistical methods; interpret results and initiate corrective actions when needed.
  • Monitor analytical systems, perform first-line troubleshooting, and escalate complex issues.
  • Document, communicate, and archive analytical and calibration data to ensure integrity and traceability.
  • Adhere to EHandS and ODMS requirements and help elevate a strong safety culture.
  • Recommend enhancements to laboratory processes and tools for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Escalate non-routine or complex requests to the right experts or management.
Environmental Operations
  • Conduct environmental sampling and testing in line with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Perform routine waste treatment pond rounds and manage related operations.
  • Schedule and supervise loading for salty water and sludge trucks.
  • Manage sump routing and handle stormwater to prevent contamination.
  • Unplug and clear lines/filters; operate valves safely.
  • Lift and move up to 50 lbs; work outdoors across varied weather conditions.
  • Climb ladders up to 15 ft multiple times per shift.
About You
  • Vocational or upper secondary education (e.g., High School Diploma) with laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience.
  • Post-secondary coursework in chemistry or a related science preferred.
  • Comfort working independently and within a diverse team.
  • Detail-oriented, strong problem-solver, and committed to safety and quality.
  • Broad technical aptitude in analytical methods and operational processes; eager to mentor others informally.
Your Impact

Using robust data systems, you acquire results, monitor analytical performance, and clearly communicate findings to clients and stakeholders. Your expertise keeps processes in control, protects the environment, and enables the plant to perform at its best.
