Position Summary
THIS IS A STRICTLY HANDS-ON WORKING LEAD POSITION—NOT A DESK OR DESK-ONLY ADMINISTRATIVE ROLE.
The Dockmaster & Maintenance Supervisor leads from the docks and shop floor, actively carrying out physical
maintenance, waterfront vessel handling, daily pool staging, and event setups alongside seasonal staff. This position
is the club's primary, frontline person responsible for ensuring floating and fixed docks, utility connections, grounds,
and clubhouse physical assets remain safe, fully operational, and pristine for members and visiting yachtsmen. Additionally, the role coordinates daily pool preparation and oversees event setups to support club activities.
CRITICAL SCHEDULE REQUIREMENT: Because club and marina activities peak when members recreate, this role
REQUIRES regular in-person work on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and major summer holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July,
Labor Day weekend) during the primary boating season, as well as on-call readiness for storm prep and tidal surge
response.
Key Responsibilities
1. Marina Operations Dockmaster Responsibilities
* Vessel Dock Support: Actively greet incoming vessels, monitor VHF radio, assign transient slips, and physically
catch/secure lines during maiden and regular dockings.
* Waterfront Safety Inspection: Walk docks daily to inspect pilings, finger piers, hardware, safety ladders, and
dock lighting; enforce club marina rules and Clean Marina safety standards (focus is facility infrastructure only;
no member boat engine repair).
* Dock Utilities: Monitor and troubleshoot marine pedestals, 30/50-amp shore power hookups, dock water
spigots, and marina pump-out stations.
* Storm Surge Preparedness: Track local weather forecasts and tidal surge advisories; physically secure floating
and fixed piers, inspect boat lines, and execute severe weather emergency tie-up plans.
2. Hands-On Facility Upkeep Light Trades
* Carpentry (Primary Trade Focus): Directly handle woodwork repairs including replacing weathered dock and
deck boards, securing pier railings, rebuilding gates, repairing steps, drywall patching, and basic clubhouse
wood/siding maintenance.
* Basic Plumbing: Perform routine, straightforward plumbing repairs—clearing minor drain clogs, swapping toilet
valves/flappers, fixing leaking dock spigots, and assisting with seasonal dock water blowouts (winterizing) and
spring line pressurization.
* Basic Electrical: Perform basic, routine electrical work—swapping burned-out light fixtures and ballasts,
changing damaged standard switches and receptacles, and resetting or replacing dock/exterior GFCI outlets
safely.
* Mechanical HVAC Upkeep: Maintain working knowledge of mechanical and HVAC equipment to complete
routine preventive checks: replacing air filters, cleaning accessible coils, greasing bearings, maintaining utility
carts/power equipment, and coordinating licensed contractors when complex repairs arise.
* Shop & Supplies: Maintain a safe, orderly maintenance shop, track hardware and supply inventories, and
ensure tools are clean, charged, and in safe working order.
3. Daily Pool Operations Grounds Upkeep
* Daily Morning Pool Setup: Physically open pool area each morning during season: roll back covers, set up and
wipe down lounge chairs and umbrellas, skim pool surface, test water/record chlorine-pH readings, and ensure
rescue equipment is positioned prior to member opening.
* Pool Vendor Coordination: Liaise with licensed pool chemical/filtration contractors on pump room equipment,
filter backwashing, and seasonal openings/closings.
* Grounds Appearance: Maintain clean exterior grounds, including walkways, gravel/paved lots, bulkheads, lawn
perimeters, trash cans, and dumpster enclosures.
4. Event Staging Logistical Support
* Setup & Teardown: Review Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and calendar weekly to lead the physical setup and
breakdown of banquet tables, chairs, staging, outdoor tents, portable bars, and AV cords for regattas, private
parties, and club holidays.
* Venue Reset: Inspect and return all event spaces promptly to standard dining/member operational
configurations immediately following functions.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of direct, hands-on experience in waterfront/marina operations, facility trades,
or property maintenance. Prior Dockmaster, Assistant Dockmaster, or Working Maintenance Lead background
preferred.
* Hands-On Trade Skills: Proven ability to safely and independently execute basic electrical, simple plumbing, and
light carpentry (specifically pier/deck board replacement).
* Physical Capability: Ability to walk docks, step comfortably on/off rocking boats, kneel, climb ladders, and
lift/carry heavy gear, furniture, and materials up to 60 lbs.
* Weather Outdoors: Ability to work outside in all weather extremes (summer heat/humidity, rain, wind,
winter freeze).
* Schedule Commitment: MANDATORY weekend, holiday, and summer schedule availability, plus emergency
storm readiness. This is an active operations position that cannot be performed remotely.
* Certifications & Licenses: Valid Driver's License and clean driving record required. Boating safety certification, CPO (Certified Pool Operator), CMO/CMM are a plus (or willingness to obtain) ABC Fuel Operator.
