Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a proactive, energetic, and highly organized Manufacturing Water Spider / Shop Floor Material Coordinator to support our machining and assembly operation. In this role, your primary mission is to keep our machinists and operators focused entirely on production. You will act as the operational heartbeat of the shop floor—eliminating downtime by managing material movement, coordinating outside services, and serving as the vital link between Production Control and Operations. As we transition toward a lean manufacturing environment, you will also play a foundational role in implementing and maintaining our new Kanban replenishment systems.

While experience in a machine shop and ERP systems is a significant plus, we are fully willing to train a highly motivated, dependable candidate who has a strong work ethic and a desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Material Movement & Staging

• Transport raw materials, castings, tooling, and fixtures directly to machining workstations ahead of schedule.

• Ensure all staged jobs have the necessary documentation, routers, and quality packets intact.

• Move completed parts to the next designated routing step, keeping staging areas clean and orderly.

• Manage and organize work-in-progress (WIP) storage areas to maximize shop floor efficiency.

Outside Vendor (OSV) Coordination

• Initiate, track, and package parts for Outside Service Vendor (OSV) operations such as heat treating, plating, and anodizing.

• Complete all required OSV paperwork and system requests accurately to ensure seamless logistics.

• Coordinate the physical expediting of parts leaving for or returning from external vendors.

Production Liaison & Communication

• Serve as the main point of contact between Production Control and Operations to communicate schedule updates or constraint issues.

• Protect machinists from administrative and logistical distractions by handling inquiries, tracking down missing components, and resolving paperwork discrepancies.

• Utilize our Epicor ERP system to track jobs, check material status, and input data.

• Participate in daily shop floor tier meetings to report on material readiness and potential bottlenecks.

Kanban & Inventory Replenishment

• Monitor, execute, and maintain hardware, tooling, and raw material Kanban systems as they are implemented.

• Perform regular shop floor audits to trigger timely replenishment requests before stockouts occur.

• Collaborate with purchasing and stockroom teams to optimize point-of-use inventory levels.

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Requirements (Required):

• Attributes: High level of energy, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive sense of urgency.

• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with machinists, supervisors, and office staff.

• Computer Literacy: Comfortable learning new software, working with computers, or navigating tablets.

• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and comfortably lift up to 50 lbs. Forklift certification or willingness to become certified is required.

Preferred Qualifications (Desirable but Not Required - We Will Train!):

• Experience: 1–2 years of experience working in a manufacturing or machine shop environment (especially low-volume, high-mix production).

• Software: Prior experience using Epicor ERP or any other MRP/ERP inventory tracking system is a plus.

• Lean Knowledge: Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts, specifically Kanban, 5S, and continuous improvement (kaizen) are a plus.
