Job Description

Location: Shelby Township, MI
Position Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time
Salary: $80,000–$90,000
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite

Position Overview

We are seeking an FEA Engineer to perform finite element analysis (FEA) and evaluate the performance of mechanical and structural designs. This role focuses on using engineering principles, mathematical calculations, and simulation software to analyze designs, evaluate stress and strain, predict fatigue performance, and ensure products meet engineering requirements.

The FEA Engineer will support product development by identifying potential design issues and recommending improvements to meet performance and customer specifications. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career mechanical engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, working independently, and applying engineering fundamentals to complex design challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform nonlinear finite element analysis on rubber products and structural components using FEA software
  • Analyze engineering designs to evaluate stress, strain, fatigue, and overall product performance
  • Develop technical data, analysis results, and presentations to support engineering reviews and design decisions
  • Evaluate predicted rate curves and product fatigue performance using specialized analysis tools
  • Recommend design modifications and alternatives to meet engineering requirements and improve product performance
  • Collaborate with product engineers and engineering managers throughout the product development process
  • Identify potential design issues and communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly
  • Manage multiple engineering projects while meeting program schedules and deadlines
  • Stay current with engineering principles, materials, industry standards, and analysis methods

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics
  • 0–5 years of FEA experience; relevant co-op or internship experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, mathematics, and material properties
  • Experience with FEA software such as Abaqus, ANSYS, or Nastran
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and time-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics
  • Experience with HyperMesh and fatigue analysis software such as FE-Safe or nCode
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as Siemens NX
  • Knowledge of nonlinear analysis, stress/strain evaluation, and product fatigue assessment
  • Experience supporting automotive or manufacturing engineering projects
