Direct Support Professional II (Homes) - Now Hiring

This role operates in a Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Setting, defined as “medical, social, and supportive services for Iowans with functional, cognitive, and other physical or mental health needs” (Iowa Health & Human Services). Rather than institutionalizing individuals who have these physical and mental health needs, HCBS settings provide these individuals with the opportunity to live and receive services in a way honoring to them and their abilities.

As a Direct Support Professional II, you’ll provide training to other Direct Support Professionals and give your valuable input into the development of individual goals and objectives. As an integral part of the overall care team, you will collaborate with other Direct Support Professionals, Programmers, Supervisors, individuals-served, and their families to ensure the best possible care for those you serve. You will fulfill an individual’s behavioral care plan by creatively strategizing the best way for each individual to reach and exceed their goals. Your innovative and impactful solutions and strategies will make the difference for those you serve.

• Goal Development & Person-Centered Planning: Collaborate with local leadership, including the HCBS Supervisor and Programmer, to develop attainable goals and objectives that reflect each individual’s needs, strengths, preferences, and desired outcomes. Assist with appointments, resources, and problem-solving while ensuring plans remain compliant with applicable requirements.
• Staff Leadership & Training: Serve as an exemplary team member by assisting with staff orientation and ongoing training, sharing effective teaching strategies, and coaching Direct Support Professionals on how to empower individuals and support progress toward their goals.
• Person-Centered Direct Support: Provide services based on each individual’s goals and behavioral care plan by teaching skills rather than completing tasks for them, using approved behavioral strategies, encouraging participation, and supporting meaningful recreational, social, and community activities.
• Health, Safety & Daily Living Support: Promote safe environments and provide instruction and assistance with personal care, hygiene, clothing, medication administration, and appropriate dietary needs while supporting individuals in presenting their best selves and maintaining as much independence as possible.
• Documentation, Compliance & Advocacy: Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of individual progress and services provided while following all applicable policies, laws, and governing requirements. Advocate for individual choice, dignity, rights, independence, and control over their own lives, including applying rights restrictions only as authorized by the IDT and individual’s plan.
