Special Education Teacher in Spruce Pine, NC

A rewarding opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to make a positive impact in both elementary and middle school classrooms. This contract position extends through May 28, 2027, and is perfect for someone passionate about supporting students and collaborating with classroom teams.

This role offers a full-time schedule—Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week—across two structured learning environments. The elementary classroom, focused on structured support, serves a caseload of 6 students who require toileting assistance but have no behavioral or feeding needs. Support staff include a Teaching Assistant and Behavior Technician, allowing for a collaborative and well-resourced classroom experience.

In the co-teaching middle school setting, you'll work with 11 students. While some require toileting assistance and one requires feeding tube support, the class presents with mild or no behavioral concerns. You’ll collaborate closely with a team that includes another teacher, three full-time Teaching Assistants, and a dedicated 1:1 aide for specialized student needs.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid Special Education Teacher certification (active or eligible)
• Experience working within elementary and/or middle school special education settings
• Familiarity with structured support and co-teaching models
• Comfort providing or supervising toileting assistance and accommodating medical needs
• Strong communication skills and collaborative approach
