Job Description
The Safety Performance Engineer is responsible for leading safety development activities for assigned vehicle programs to ensure all identified safety functional objectives are achieved.
This role will support impact script development, identify design enablers, execute component and full-vehicle test plans, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the vehicle development lifecycle.

Job Description
The Safety Performance Engineer is responsible for leading safety development activities for assigned vehicle programs to ensure all identified safety functional objectives are achieved.
This role will support impact script development, identify design enablers, execute component and full-vehicle test plans, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the vehicle development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead safety development activities, including safety target setting and vehicle-level test plan execution, with a focus on vehicle crash regulatory requirements and third-party safety ratings.
- Support the vehicle integration and validation process by owning safety performance activities and leading cross-functional attribute teams.
- Support safety technical clubs and execute vehicle program requests related to safety performance.
- Influence vehicle designs and investigate safety-related issues to determine root causes and appropriate corrective actions.
- Prepare and issue the required documentation for issue resolution.
- Lead cross-functional teams when issues involve multiple vehicle engineering disciplines.
- Plan and execute physical, component, and full-vehicle testing activities.
- Support vehicle builds, pre-test preparation, test execution, and validation activities from concept through vehicle launch.
- Collaborate with the CAE team on virtual validation assessments and correlation of analytical and physical test results.
- Ensure vehicle safety objectives, regulatory requirements, and performance targets are achieved throughout the development process.
- Travel to Chelsea Proving Grounds as required.
- Strong technical knowledge related to vehicle safety development, crashworthiness, testing, and validation.
- Experience supporting vehicle crash regulatory requirements and third-party safety ratings.
- Experience with component-level and full-vehicle testing.
- Ability to investigate technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
- Experience working with CAE and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate activities across different vehicle engineering disciplines.
- Willingness and ability to travel to Chelsea Proving Grounds as required.
