Role Name: Air Intake System Product Design and Release Engineer
Work Location: Auburn Hills, MI (Onsite)

Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Air Intake System Product Design and Release Engineer to design, develop, and validate air intake systems for internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid electric vehicles.
The role involves working with various air intake system components, including low-pressure clean-side and dirty-side ducts, air cleaners, make-up air hoses, resonators, air filters, brackets, and related components.
The selected candidate will be responsible for managing air intake systems through various stages of product development, from initial packaging and design through validation and production release. This includes ensuring that components meet air intake system, engine, and vehicle-level functional and performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, validate, and release air intake system components for internal combustion engine and hybrid electric vehicle applications.
  • Manage multiple air intake system projects across different stages of product development.
  • Coordinate CAD design, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis, prototyping, physical testing, and associated technical documentation.
  • Support component packaging, engineering design, and system integration to meet functional and performance requirements.
  • Support sourcing activities and collaborate with suppliers to ensure successful component development.
  • Coordinate and monitor supplier progress to ensure component maturity, project milestones, quality standards, and delivery timelines are met.
  • Develop and implement industry-standard engineering processes, including Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R), to minimize technical risks.
  • Provide occasional onsite engineering support at engine and vehicle assembly plants.
  • Investigate and resolve product quality concerns throughout development and production.
  • Support process change validation and engineering modifications.
  • Participate in technical cost-reduction and value optimization initiatives following vehicle launch.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and other stakeholders to ensure successful product delivery.
Mandatory Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, coordinate, and manage suppliers effectively.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, primarily within the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Availability to visit supplier facilities, corporate vehicle or engine assembly plants, proving grounds, and technical centers as required.
Additional Skills and Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of automotive air intake systems and related components.
  • Ability to communicate proactively and effectively with teammates, stakeholders, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively in onsite, remote, or hybrid work environments, as applicable.
  • General knowledge of CAD design tools and engineering design processes.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, technical documentation, and presentation development.
  • Understanding of component and system-level DFMEA processes.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and apply Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R).
  • Familiarity with automotive product development, validation, and release processes.
