The Visual Arts program at Eckerd College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Painting and to serve as Studio Foundations Coordinator starting in Fall 2027. The ideal candidate will hold an MFA in Painting or related studio art discipline, with a demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art practices and the ability to teach across a range of foundational art and design disciplines. The successful candidate will teach across all levels of painting, oversee studio facilities, and develop innovative curriculum in the area of painting. Alongside the position’s engagement with painting we seek a candidate who will provide leadership in the area of studio foundations in the Visual Arts program.

As the Foundations Coordinator, the successful candidate will teach 5 studio courses in their first year, then will transition to 7 courses per academic year with a focus on painting and drawing, from introduction to capstone levels, in a broad-based liberal arts curriculum for majors and non-majors. Participation in an interdisciplinary, values-oriented general education program is required, including a regular rotation in the two-semester first year program.

Eckerd College, the only independent national liberal arts college in Florida, has a tradition of innovative education and teaching/mentoring excellence. The successful applicant will demonstrate a well developed research plan that is accessible to undergraduate students, a vigorous studio practice, strong exhibition record, and other related professional activities.

Submit a letter of application, curriculum vita, statement of teaching philosophy, artist statement, PDF Portfolio of Creative work (15-20 examples), PDF Portfolio of student work relevant to the position (15-20 examples please include information about work and project assignment descriptions), graduate transcripts, and contact information for three references so that letters of recommendation can be requested, via https://eckerd.exacthire.com/jobs/. For full consideration, applications should submit materials by December 1, 2026. Inquiries may be sent to Professor Rachel de Cuba at cubar@eckerd.edu.

Employment will require a successful background check.
