Required Skills/Experience: Neuro and trauma experience is an absolute must. Required skills include ventilator management, critical care drips/titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, measuring cardiac strips, drains, chest tubes, hemodynamic lines (art lines/CVP), and stroke experience.

Special Requests: Housing in ME becomes more expensive in the summer months, beginning in May. Be sure to confirm you are comfortable with housing options before applying. You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Travel pairs: If you are in a relationship, EMMC will not schedule you on the same days. If you are not in a relationship, you can be scheduled for the same days if not on the same shift/unit. Managers will not guarantee the same schedule for travel pairs. If taking a full week off, you must be willing to extend the contract. Holiday time off requires approval from the nurse manager.

Unit Details: Patient population includes multispecialty critical care patients: medical/surgical, cardiac, neuro, orthopedic, trauma, and interventional. Clinical care includes stroke, ICP monitoring, EVD drains, spinal precautions, DKA, sepsis, multisystem trauma, COVID, STEMI, NSTEMI, and heart failure. Patient ratios are ICU 1:2 based on acuity (a third patient may be assigned as one patient is being downgraded), PCU 1:3-4 based on acuity, and ED holds up to 6 depending on acuity (for example, Med-Surg = 1:5-6). Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility with the RN. Equipment includes Alaris and Pyxis.

Shift & Scheduling: RTO is allowed for up to 7 days. Weekend rotation is every other weekend (dayshift: Sat/Sun; nightshift: Fri/Sat). No call. Holiday expectations vary based on unit needs.

Floating Requirements: This float pool position routinely floats between ICU and PCU levels of care, including ICU, CVICU, Cardiac PCU, and General PCU units. It also includes floating into the ED to take ED holds (patients with admission orders) and/or ED Observation patients (holding orders but not fully admitted); assignments will include patients within your scope of practice and below.
