Grinder Operator with Blanchard Grinder Experience

A Blanchard grinder operator is a skilled tradesperson who sets up and runs a rotary surface grinding machine to flatten and smooth large metal parts.

Role and Responsibilities

• Machine Setup: Selects appropriate grinding wheels or abrasive segments, loads metal workpieces onto a magnetic chuck, and secures them. [1, 2, 3]
• Operation & Control: Adjusts feed rates, handles manual or CNC controls (such as Bourn & Koch or Fanuc systems), and monitors the machine for proper metal removal and cross-hatch finish patterns. [1, 2, 3]
• Quality Control: Measures parts using precision tools like micrometers and calipers to verify thickness, flatness, and parallelism against blueprints. [1, 2, 3]
• Material Handling: Operates overhead gantry cranes, forklifts, or clamps to maneuver heavy or large steel plates and castings. [1, 2]

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of machining principles, tool wear, and surface tolerances. [1, 2, 3]
