Lead Technician - Structured Cabling

We are seeking experienced Lead Technicians with a strong background in structured cabling, fiber optics, and copper installations to join a growing project team in Cedar Rapids, IA.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for professionals who enjoy technical work, mentoring technicians, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards.

Candidates do not need to live locally. Travel arrangements may be supported through an available travel budget. Candidates must be comfortable working on-site for multiple weeks at a time before returning home for a break.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support teams of approximately 3–5 Technicians and Installers.
• Install structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic cabling.
• Perform cable termination, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Interpret floor plans, technical drawings, specifications, and cut sheets.
• Properly set up and operate copper and fiber testing equipment.
• Identify and resolve installation and connectivity issues.
• Provide hands-on technical training and mentorship.
• Ensure adherence to safety regulations, quality standards, and established procedures.
• Coordinate daily work activities to maintain productivity and meet deadlines.
• Maintain an organized, professional, and safe jobsite.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–5 years of experience in structured cabling or related construction/industry experience.
• Working knowledge of copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
• Ability to read and interpret installation drawings and technical documentation.
• Understanding of cable pathways, horizontal cabling, backbone systems, cross-connections, and testing.
• Ability to distinguish color codes.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Strong troubleshooting, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively lead small teams.
• Willingness to work days, nights, and weekends as project needs require.
• Willingness to travel and remain on-site for extended assignments.

Certifications

• OSHA 30 certification must be completed within the first two weeks of employment.
• BICSI Installer 2 Copper preferred.
• BICSI Installer 2 Fiber preferred.
• BICSI Certified Technician certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Compensation & Opportunity

• Annual salary of $68,000–$79,000.
