Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a manufacturing organization in Decatur, Alabama. Responsibilities:

• Record accounting activity by preparing and entering journal entries with complete supporting documentation.

• Review balance sheet accounts on a recurring basis, investigate variances, and correct discrepancies to maintain accurate records.

• Support the monthly close cycle by completing assigned tasks, posting accruals, and ensuring adjustments are reflected on time.

• Help produce internal financial reporting and analyze fluctuations to assist the team in understanding period-to-period results.

• Maintain compliance with company accounting policies and applicable reporting standards across daily and monthly activities.

• Partner with audit teams by gathering requested records, answering questions, and explaining account activity during internal and external reviews.

• Contribute to fixed asset processes as needed within the broader accounting function.

• Participate in cross-training and provide backup support across finance responsibilities when business needs require added coverage.

• Assist with special projects, including accounting-related system enhancements, integrations, and process improvement initiatives.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

• At least 2 years of accounting experience

• Background working in a corporate accounting environment is preferred.

• Experience with journal entries, general ledger activity, and month-end close procedures.

• Ability to prepare accurate financial information and support financial statement reporting.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for routine accounting analysis and reconciliation work.

• Familiarity with SAP or comparable enterprise accounting systems is beneficial.

• CPA Certification is welcomed but not required; additional practical accounting experience may offset the absence of a certification.
