Structural Steel Fitter-Welder (FCAW Specialist)

Shape heavy steel into precise assemblies

Picture your day starting at 6:00 a.m. The first thing you do is open the shop drawings, trace the dimensions, and read the AWS welding symbols to map out the build. You measure, fit, and align heavy steel, then lay in clean flux‑cored passes—vertical full‑penetration and overhead fillet welds—before verifying every dimension and weld quality against spec. Throughout, you keep your area safe, organized, and production-ready.

Hours: Monday - Friday - 6:00am - 4:30pm (50 hour work week), Saturdays as required.

What you'll do

• Interpret shop drawings, dimensions, and AWS welding symbols to plan work.
• Measure, fit, align, and assemble steel components ahead of weld-out.
• Perform FCAW with confidence, including vertical full‑penetration and overhead fillet welds.
• Inspect welds and completed assemblies for quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Operate welding and fabrication equipment while maintaining a safe, orderly work area.

What you bring

• 2+ years of hands-on welding and fitting experience in steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing.
• Proficiency with flux‑cored arc welding (FCAW).
• Ability to read shop drawings and interpret AWS welding symbols.
• Ability to pass a vertical full‑penetration weld test and an overhead fillet weld test.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and D14.1 welding standards preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
