Position Summary

The Deputy Sheriff is responsible for law enforcement, crime prevention, investigations, patrol duties, and providing support to emergency services throughout Kimball County. This role requires strong decision-making, excellent communication, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
• Conduct traffic stops, enforce traffic laws, and issue citations when appropriate.
• Perform criminal investigations, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and complete detailed reports.
• Execute arrest warrants, serve civil papers, and transport inmates as required.
• Provide community support through outreach, education, and positive engagement.
• Testify in court proceedings when necessary.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency standards.
• Assist other law enforcement agencies and first responders as needed.
• Uphold department policies, Nebraska state law, and federal regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High School diploma or GED required; advanced education is a plus.
• Valid Nebraska driver’s license (or ability to obtain before hire).

• Must be able to work long shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as the job requires.

Preferred Qualifications

• Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification (preferred but not required — we will sponsor the right candidate).
• Previous experience as a law enforcement officer, correctional officer, military police, or related field.
• Strong community-policing mindset and desire to work in a small-town environment.
• Live in Kimball County Nebraska.
