We’re seeking a strategic Chief Estimator to lead civil estimating from opportunity review through final bid submission, partner with executive and operations leaders, and develop a high-performing estimating team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead civil estimating and proposal efforts from opportunity evaluation through final bid submission.
• Assess project fit, risk, competition, resources, and potential margin to guide go/no-go decisions.
• Review plans, specifications, soils reports, contracts, and other bid documents; develop clear estimates with supported scope, production assumptions, costs, and risks.
• Present bid recommendations and assumptions to executive leadership.
• Partner with operations to compare estimates with actual project costs and improve future estimating.
• Maintain historical bid and project-cost data, and improve estimating tools, processes, and standards.
• Monitor Hawaiʻi market conditions, pricing, competition, and upcoming opportunities.
• Build relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.
• Lead and develop the estimating team through coaching, bid reviews, and clear performance expectations.
• Align estimates with operations to ensure Alpha can execute the work successfully and profitably.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive estimating experience in civil or heavy construction.
• Hands-on experience with HeavyBid and HeavyJob.
• Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, contracts, scope development, production assumptions, cost drivers, and construction risk.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Strong business judgment, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Senior-level estimating or team leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred
