Job Description
Job Title: Electro-Chemical Engineer (Long Term Contract)
Department: Research & Development / Hardware Engineering
Experience Level: 4–5 Years of Professional Experience
Location: Cleanroom, Fabrication & Lab Facility
Position Summary
As an Electro-Chemical Engineer, you will bridge the gap between advanced micro/nanofabrication processes, optical testing, and daily laboratory upkeep. With 4–5 years of hands-on experience, you will independently build, test, and optimize electro-chemical and electro-optical components (such as specialized sensors, functional surfaces, or device architectures) while driving cleanroom efficiency and laboratory operational excellence. This role requires a balance of advanced technical execution, proactive facility management, and the ability to mentor junior technicians or engineers.
Core Responsibilities
- Nanofabrication & Electro-Chemical Processing: Independently execute and troubleshoot cleanroom and wet-chemistry processes, including photolithography, thin-film deposition (PVD/CVD), electroplating, dry/wet etching, and surface functionalization to prototype advanced devices.
- Device Characterization: Design, set up, and calibrate specialized testing benches to characterize devices for electrical, electrochemical, and optical performance metrics.
- Lab & Cleanroom Operations: Own daily operational performance for the lab, including tracking tool uptime, scheduling preventative maintenance with vendors, authoring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and enforcing strict chemical/gas safety protocols.
- Data Analysis & Process Improvement: Process experimental data using Python, MATLAB, or JMP to identify process drift, implement statistical process control (SPC), optimize device yields, and lead root-cause failure analysis.
- Vendor & Safety Management: Serve as the primary engineering contact for equipment vendors, manage critical spare parts inventories, and oversee chemical procurement and hazardous waste disposal in strict compliance with EHS standards.
- Team Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior team members, interns, or technicians on cleanroom safety, chemical handling, tool operation, and test setups.
Required Qualifications
- Education: B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 4–5 years of dedicated, hands-on industry or advanced research experience working in a cleanroom, wet chemistry, or device characterization laboratory.
- Fabrication Skills: Proven mastery of micro/nanofabrication equipment, chemical processing, and advanced metrology tools (e.g., AFM, SEM, Profilometers, Ellipsometers).
- Testing Expertise: Strong expertise using electrochemical or electronic instrumentation alongside precision laboratory hardware alignment.
- Operations Mindset: Demonstrated success managing laboratory infrastructure, tool maintenance tracking, chemical hygiene, or workplace safety protocols.
Preferred Skills (Plus)
- Automation experience for lab instrumentation and data collection (LabVIEW, Python programming for hardware control).
- Experience with multiphysics simulation or modeling software (COMSOL, MATLAB).
- Strong background in Design of Experiments (DOE) principles for process optimization.
