Solutions Architect

Spectra Tech is seeking a Solutions Architect for Oak Ridge, TN.

*Job Description:

* Hands-on experience building and administering Grafana dashboards, plus production experience with at least one other platform: Power BI, Tableau, Dynatrace, Datadog, etc.

* Strong SQL across enterprise databases (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL), including query tuning and an understanding of source-system impact.

* Experience with semantic models and dimensional modeling (star schemas, measures, relationships).

* Working knowledge of BI data governance: RLS, CLS, data ownership, classification, and secure credential handling.

* Experience integrating REST APIs and varied authentication methods (API tokens, OAuth/OIDC, basic auth, Kerberos/LDAP, service accounts).

* Connectivity troubleshooting with curl, including authenticated proxies, headers, tokens and TLS certificates, and with API tools such as Postman.

* Comfortable working on remote servers over SSH (including MFA-protected access) and Remote Desktop: editing configuration files, deploying and scheduling scripts with cron or system timers, managing services, and reading logs.

Specific Requirements -

* Translate Leadership and IT Operations questions and existing tools/systems output into metrics, and identify which source systems hold the data (applications, databases, APIs, monitoring tools, SaaS platforms).

* Design and build dashboards in Grafana today, and support evaluation of or migration to Dynatrace, Datadog, Power BI or Tableau.

* Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and semantic models that pull data efficiently and securely from source systems.

* Apply data governance controls, including row-level and column-level security, least-privilege service accounts, data classification, retention and lineage.

* Write efficient, well-scoped queries that don't overload source systems or expose data beyond what's needed.

* Deploy and maintain data collection scripts on Linux servers, scheduled with cron or system timers.

* Troubleshoot or communicate potential issues with connectivity and authentication across proxies, TLS, firewalls and APIs.

* Document data sources, metric definitions, refresh logic and support runbooks.

Preferred Qualifications -

* Production experience with two or more of Power BI, Tableau, Dynatrace or Datadog.

* RHEL administration in hardened environments (e.g. STIG, SELinux, fapolicyd), including permissions, policy troubleshooting and certificates.

* Experience administering a BI or observability platform: upgrades, plugins/connectors, provisioning, backups.

* Scripting in Bash, PowerShell or Python.

* Experience in on-premises, restricted-network or regulated environments; familiarity with NIST 800-53 / FISMA.

* Experience with general Web Development, SAP, VMware, ServiceNow, Splunk or similar enterprise systems as data sources.

Educational Requirements:

Level 5: PhD in a technical field and 2 to 5 years of related experience or Masters degree in a technical field and 5 to 10 years of related experience or Bachelors degree in a technical field and 10 to 15 years of related experience or Associates degree in a technical field and 15 to 20 years of related experience. Requires demonstrated in depth knowledge and skills in a technical specialty. Recognized as an expert in their field.

Level 6: PhD in a technical field and 5 or more years of related experience or Masters degree in a technical field and 10 or more years of related experience or Bachelors degree in a technical field and 15 or more years of related experience or Associates degree in a technical field and 20 or more years of related experience. Requires demonstrated in-depth knowledge and skills in a technical specialty. This level should be limited to a small population. Recognized as an expert in their field.
