FCS Integration Developer

Project Overview

Our utility client uses the Itron Field Collection System (FCS) to support field meter-reading operations. Field personnel use FC300 handhelds and Itron MC3/MC4 Toughbooks, with Bing Maps for street view and routing. Microsoft ends support for the current Bing Maps version on 11/30/2026, so the existing environments (FCS 4.3.0 for the water business and FCS 4.5.3 for the primary business) will undergo a stepped upgrade to FCS 4.7. A new QA environment will be built and upgraded to 4.7 to validate the solution through Functional, System Integration (SIT), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) before production deployment. Scope includes the associated FC300 handhelds, MC3/MC4 Toughbooks, and Bing Maps impacts.

The existing FCS-to-SAP integration continues via Client and MoveIT sFTP. SAP initiates meter-reading requirements by billing cycle. Field staff complete electric/water readings on field devices, and the readings flow through FCS to SAP for downstream billing.

Role Summary
Plan and execute functional and non-functional testing of the upgraded FCS 4.7 to confirm readiness for production.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare functional and non-functional test plans
• Design and write test cases covering FCS 4.7, handheld/Toughbook behavior, and Bing Maps functionality
• Execute testing across Functional, SIT, and UAT phases
• Log, triage, and retest defects
• Prepare and share test result documentation
• Work with the architect and developer to validate end-to-end meter-reading flows from SAP through FCS and back

Must-Have Skills

• Functional testing experience with Itron Field Collection System (FCS) or any compatible collection system

Nice to Have

• Experience testing mobile or handheld field applications
• Familiarity with non-functional testing (performance, compatibility)
• Exposure to SAP billing integration testing
