Job Description
Automotive Diagnostic Specialist – Electrical & Drivability
Kelly's Auto Repair & Service | Dunnellon, FL
Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM | NO WEEKENDS | Family-Owned for Over 30 Years
We're Looking for a Problem Solver, Not a Parts Changer!
Some technicians are great at replacing parts. Others are great at figuring out WHY those parts need replacing—or whether they were even the problem in the first place.

We're looking for the second kind.
You know the technician we're talking about. The one everyone turns to when the check engine light won't stay off, an electrical problem makes absolutely no sense, or a vehicle has already been to three other shops without a solution.
If you're the kind of technician who enjoys a challenging diagnosis, understands that trouble codes are clues rather than answers, and would rather prove a component is defective than guess at it, we'd like to meet you!

A Position Built Around Your Diagnostic Skills:
This is a diagnostic-focused position.
Your primary responsibility will be identifying the root causes of complex automotive problems—not spending your entire day performing routine maintenance and general repairs.
Depending on the nature of the problem, you may complete the repair yourself or work with another technician to get the vehicle back on the road.
Our goal is simple: Put your diagnostic expertise to its best use while keeping our entire team productive.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Diagnosing complex electrical, electronic, drivability, and computer-controlled system problems.
  • Using professional scan tools, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Interpreting wiring diagrams, technical service information, and live vehicle data.
  • Developing logical testing strategies to identify the actual cause of a problem.
  • Diagnosing intermittent concerns that require patience, persistence, and critical thinking.
  • Working with our technicians and service advisors to develop accurate repair recommendations.
  • Verifying repairs and helping ensure vehicles are fixed correctly the first time.
  • Sharing your knowledge and helping strengthen our team's diagnostic capabilities.

What We're Looking For:
  • At least 5 years of professional automotive repair experience, with a strong background in diagnostics.
  • Excellent understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  • Strong knowledge of engine performance, drivability, and computer-controlled systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and manufacturer service information.
  • Experience using professional diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong critical-thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Someone who takes pride in solving problems correctly—not just quickly.
  • A professional attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to be part of a team.
Experience with oscilloscopes and advanced diagnostic techniques is highly desirable.
ASE certifications are a plus, but demonstrated ability, experience, and a logical approach to diagnosis mean more to us than certificates on the wall.

Let's Talk Compensation!
We know that great diagnosticians aren't easy to find, and we don't expect to hire one at an average technician's wage.
We're offering a guaranteed base salary plus performance-based bonus opportunities—not a traditional flat rate.
We believe a skilled diagnostician should be rewarded for accurate problem-solving, efficiency, and contributing to the success of the entire team—not penalized because a difficult intermittent problem takes time to solve.
If you've got the skills we're looking for, we're ready to have a serious conversation about compensation.

Why You'll Want to Work Here:
  • No weekends. Ever. Your time off belongs to you.
Consistent hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM.
  • Guaranteed base salary plus bonus opportunities.
  • Family-owned and established: We've proudly served our community for over 30 years.
  • Professional diagnostic equipment and resources: We understand the importance of having the right tools and information.
  • Team-first environment: We believe in cooperation, communication, and mutual respect.
  • Your skills will be valued: We understand that proper diagnosis requires knowledge, experience, and time.

Benefits:
  • Paid holidays and sick time.
  • Paid vacation:
    • 1 week after 1 year.
    • 2 weeks after 3 years.
  • 1 week of paternity leave.

After 90 days:
  • Gym membership.
  • Retirement plan with 3% company match.
  • Direct Primary Care healthcare benefit.

The Bottom Line:
We're not looking for someone who simply knows how to replace parts.
We're looking for someone who wants to understand WHY something failed, who enjoys the satisfaction of solving a difficult problem, and who takes pride in getting it right.
At Kelly's Auto Repair & Service, we believe exceptional diagnostic ability deserves recognition, respect, and appropriate compensation.
If you're tired of chasing flat-rate hours, fighting unrealistic expectations, or working somewhere your diagnostic abilities aren't appreciated, maybe it's time for a change.

If this sounds like you, we'd really like to talk. Apply today!
