Nursing Coordinator

The Nursing Coordinator supports patient flow and visitor communication across adjacent surgical waiting rooms at Barnes. This non-clinical, patient-satisfaction-focused role works four 10-hour shifts from 0500–1530, with no weekends, holidays, or call, and coordinates closely with preoperative, PACU, and OR teams.

Responsibilities

• Round on patients and visitors in surgical waiting rooms and provide timely updates.
• Monitor surgical case delays and communicate prolonged waits to patients and families.
• Coordinate patient movement and throughput with preoperative, PACU, and OR teams.
• Assist with service recovery and respond to staff, patient, and visitor questions or concerns.
• Assist with escorting patients and families between designated areas.
• Communicate with charge staff and leadership as needed.
• Assess physical, psychosocial, emotional, cultural, spiritual, and population-specific needs in accordance with standards of care.
• Travel between adjacent surgical waiting rooms during the workday.

Required Qualifications

• At least one year of perioperative patient coordination experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• RN license required/Nursing background.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree in nursing or a related healthcare field.
• Perioperative experience.
