Job Description
IT Analyst III (Business Systems Analyst – Financial & Operational Planning)
Location: Houston, TX
Employment Type: Contract
Anticipated Duration: November 30, 2026 – May 28, 2027
Pay Rate: $55–$58/hour
Job Overview
Our client, an organization in the oil and gas industry, is seeking a highly analytical and technically proficient Business Systems Analyst to support its financial and operational planning processes. This role is more business-focused than a traditional IT Analyst III position.
The analyst will provide hands-on functional and technical support for the organization’s planning applications, including Anaplan and Pod2, along with their supporting data integrations and analytics. Working directly with Planning, Finance, Operations, and IT, the analyst will support budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and operational analysis. The work covers application administration, planning model maintenance, data reconciliation, integration troubleshooting, SQL development in Snowflake, Streamlit application development, and Sigma reporting.
The successful candidate will independently investigate issues across applications and data flows, implement and test enhancements, and communicate clearly with business users, technical teams, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Planning Application Support and Administration
- Administer and support Anaplan and Pod2, including application configurations, planning models, calculations, business rules, hierarchies, workflows, and user access.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning cycles by preparing and validating data loads, updating models, reconciling results, and resolving issues within business deadlines.
- Translate business requirements into functional specifications and application changes, documenting calculation logic, data requirements, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
- Troubleshoot application errors, unexpected planning results, access issues, and performance problems, and coordinate with vendors when additional support is needed.
Data Integration and Validation
- Monitor and troubleshoot data flows between planning applications, source systems, Snowflake, and reporting platforms.
- Develop and maintain Snowflake SQL queries and views for data preparation, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting.
- Investigate missing, duplicate, delayed, or inaccurate data by tracing records through source systems, integrations, transformations, and reporting outputs.
- Validate record counts, financial totals, planning assumptions, and dimensional mappings to confirm completeness and accuracy.
- Partner with IT data teams and application owners to resolve pipeline failures and document corrective actions.
Streamlit Development and Sigma Reporting
- Develop and maintain Streamlit applications using Snowflake data to support business workflows, data validation, analysis, and planning processes.
- Build and maintain Sigma dashboards and reports, including datasets, calculations, filters, and drill-down capabilities.
- Translate business reporting requirements into usable applications and reports, validating calculations and results with business owners.
- Troubleshoot reporting discrepancies and performance issues across SQL logic, underlying data, and reporting configurations.
Testing, Releases, and Business Support
- Prepare requirements, functional specifications, test scripts, support documentation, and procedural guides.
- Coordinate and execute testing for application enhancements, model changes, integrations, and releases, and support user acceptance testing (UAT) and defect resolution.
- Coordinate upgrades and configuration changes with vendors and internal teams, taking planning calendars, dependencies, and business impacts into account.
- Provide end-user training and communicate issue status, business impacts, workarounds, and resolution timelines.
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate manual activities, simplify reconciliations, and improve application reliability.
- Follow established change management, access security, documentation, and audit requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise financial or operational planning applications, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning cycles.
- 5+ years of oil and gas industry experience supporting financial planning, operational planning, or related business applications. This experience may overlap with the application support requirement.
- Hands-on administration and model maintenance experience with at least one of Anaplan, Pod2, or Enersight, including calculations, hierarchies, data loads, and troubleshooting. Candidates must identify the platform supported and their specific responsibilities.
- Practical understanding of oil and gas planning data and the relationships among production volumes, commodity prices, revenue, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
- Hands-on Snowflake and SQL development experience, including queries, joins, aggregations, views, data reconciliation, and investigation of data quality issues.
- Experience troubleshooting data integrations and pipelines, including determining whether an issue originates in source data, extraction, transformation, loading, or application logic.
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining Streamlit applications, including connecting to Snowflake, processing data, and building interactive business workflows or analytical tools.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining Sigma dashboards and reports using Snowflake data, including calculations, filters, and validation of report results.
- Experience gathering business requirements, preparing functional specifications and test scripts, and coordinating user acceptance testing.
- Demonstrated ability to independently investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and carry issues through to resolution.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document requirements clearly, provide concise status updates, and explain technical issues to business users.
- Ability to manage concurrent support requests and enhancements.
- Experience working within formal change management, user access, and audit processes.
