Barista / Cafe Team Member - Now Hiring

At Cafe Espresso, a well-made cup of coffee and a friendly interaction can make a difference in someone’s day. Located inside Brooke Army Medical Center, our café serves a community of hospital staff, service members, patients, and visitors. We’re looking for dependable, welcoming team members who take pride in their work and enjoy helping people.

In this role, you’ll prepare drinks, assist customers, and keep the café clean, stocked, and ready for service. Whether you’re helping someone grab a quick coffee or working alongside teammates during a busy rush, your attention to detail and positive attitude will help keep things running smoothly.

• Welcome guests, answer menu questions, and help them choose drinks and food that fit their preferences.
• Take orders accurately and process credit card payments.
• Prepare orders for pickup.
• Serve orders to customers promptly.
• Provide friendly, attentive service while keeping orders moving during busy periods.

• Make espresso drinks, teas, and specialty beverages according to café recipes.
• Follow preparation standards to keep drinks consistent from one order to the next.
• Check ingredients and other items for freshness and quality.
• Keep beverage preparation areas organized and ready to use.

• Replenish milk, ingredients, cups, lids, pastries, condiments, and other supplies.
• Clean and sanitize counters, utensils, equipment, and customer seating areas.
• Sweep, mop, remove trash, and complete routine cleaning tasks.
• Follow food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
• Pitch in wherever needed to support coworkers and maintain an orderly café.

• A high school diploma; related training is a plus.
• Previous experience in a coffee shop or customer service role.
• A friendly approach and a genuine interest in helping customers.
• Dependability, clear communication, and the ability to work well with others.
• Attention to order accuracy, cleanliness, and presentation.
• Basic math skills and confidence processing payments.
• Familiarity with food safety and sanitation practices.
• Food handler certification preferred.
• Availability for varying shifts from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm (no nights or weekends).
• Military base access is preferred; if applying for access you must be able to pass a federal background check.
• Must have a valid driver license, reliable transportation, insurance, and valid registration.

This is an active, hands-on position. During a typical shift, team members will:

• Stand for extended periods and walk throughout the café.
• Bend and reach to clean, retrieve ingredients, and replenish supplies.
• Reach above shoulder level to access stored items.
• Lift and carry supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Will be working with and around hot temperatures.

• Pay: $12.00 per hour plus tips, with average total earnings of $15–$18 per hour.

Required qualifications:

• Legally authorized to work in the United States
• 18 years or older
• At least high school diploma or equivalent or higher
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• Valid auto liability insurance
• Background check
• Able to stand for duration of shift
• Able to comfortably lift 30 lbs
