This senior leadership role will drive census growth, expand referral relationships, strengthen community partnerships, and support the organization’s overall business performance.
The successful candidate will combine strategic planning with visible, active leadership in the field. Working closely with executive, operational, clinical, and admissions leadership, the Director will identify growth opportunities, develop referral pipelines, improve inquiry-to-admission conversion, and ensure that the organization is effectively represented throughout the healthcare and community markets.
The role also provides leadership and oversight for the organization’s Call Center, Marketing Department, and designated business and administrative functions supporting its residential healthcare facility at 30 E. Black Horse Pike.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Strategic Growth
· Develop and execute business development plans to increase referrals, admissions, program utilization, census, and market presence across assigned South Jersey territories.
· Build and maintain productive relationships with hospitals, health systems, physicians, therapists, social workers, case managers, schools, community organizations, treatment providers, managed care organizations, and other referral partners.
· Maintain a consistent field presence through referral-source visits, partnership meetings, networking events, conferences, and community outreach.
· Evaluate market conditions, competitor activity, community needs, and referral trends to identify opportunities for growth, new partnerships, program development, and service-line expansion.
· Work with regional operations, clinical, and admissions teams to address referral barriers and improve the transition from inquiry and referral to appropriate admission.
Call Center & Admissions Oversight
· Lead the organization’s Call Center and inquiry-management processes, establishing clear expectations for responsiveness, professionalism, accuracy, and service quality.
· Monitor call volume, response times, inquiry and referral conversion, admissions activity, and other performance indicators.
· Develop processes that improve the prospective client and referral-source experience and support effective coordination with clinical and admissions teams.
· Coach, develop, and hold Call Center team members accountable for performance and service standards.
Marketing & Community Outreach
· Oversee the Marketing Department and the organization’s marketing and outreach strategy across digital, print, website, social media, and community channels.
· Ensure consistent, accurate messaging about the organization’s programs, services, locations, and populations served.
· Direct the development and evaluation of marketing campaigns, educational materials, presentations, events, and outreach initiatives.
· Lead and develop marketing staff and liaisons, setting clear expectations and measuring performance against engagement and referral-growth objectives.
· Identify opportunities to strengthen the organization’s visibility and reputation within the behavioral healthcare and broader healthcare communities.
Residential Healthcare Facility Business Oversight
· Provide administrative and business development oversight for the organization’s residential healthcare facility at 30 E. Black Horse Pike.
· Partner with residential leadership to support census, referral development, admissions, program accessibility, and overall growth.
· Monitor census, admissions, discharges, referral activity, and other relevant business performance indicators; identify and help address barriers to performance.
· Ensure the facility is appropriately represented in organizational marketing and referral-development efforts.
Leadership, Performance & Compliance
· Lead, coach, and develop assigned teams; establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and measurable objectives.
· Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze performance data, and provide regular reports and recommendations to executive leadership.
· Coordinate closely with clinical, operations, admissions, finance, human resources, and executive teams to promote alignment and effective execution.
· Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, client access, communication, and organizational performance.
· Ensure business development, marketing, admissions, and outreach activities are conducted ethically and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, payer requirements, privacy standards, and organizational policies.
Qualifications & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, healthcare administration, or a related field.
· At least five years of experience in healthcare business development, healthcare administration, marketing, admissions, or sales, including at least two years in a leadership role.
· Experience in outpatient substance use disorder and/or mental health treatment settings strongly preferred. Experience with residential healthcare services is an advantage.
· Demonstrated success driving census growth, developing referral pipelines, building strategic partnerships, and achieving measurable business development goals.
· Experience leading and developing teams and overseeing multiple functions, preferably including marketing, admissions, or a healthcare call center.
· Strong understanding of behavioral healthcare services, referral development, healthcare marketing, admissions processes, and census management.
· Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, negotiation, networking, and relationship-management skills.
· Ability to analyze performance data, identify trends, and translate findings into practical business strategies and action plans.
· Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid requirements and healthcare program compliance preferred.
· Strong computer skills and experience with CRM, call center, electronic health record (EMR), marketing, and business intelligence systems. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, KIPU, and digital marketing platforms is beneficial.
· Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout assigned South Jersey territories.
