Production Material Handler

Location: Carpentersville, IL

Work type: On site

Employment type: Full time, non-exempt

Compensation: $19-$20 per hour, plus the bonus program

Hours: 6:00am to 4:30pm Monday - Thursday, Overtime on Fridays if you choose.

Position overview

Performance Stamping makes precision metal stampings in Carpentersville, Illinois for automotive, appliance, and power generation customers who count on parts that are right the first time. The Material Handler keeps the work moving on the production floor: getting material, dies, and parts where they need to be, and keeping inventory and work orders accurate in the system.

This role reports to the Production Manager and works closely with Production, Shipping, the Tool Room, and Receiving.

What you will do

• Keep the floor supplied: Move material, parts, dies, components, and boxes to and from presses and between buildings to meet the production schedule.

• Record production: Record and transfer in-process and finished parts in the ERP system, create move tickets, and close work orders.

• Keep inventory accurate: Maintain accurate inventory locations in the ERP system, and calculate and record scrap correctly.

• Support the team: Help the shipping leads as needed, back up the overhead crane operator and raw material receiving, and submit purchase requisitions.

• Speak up: Bring abnormal conditions to the right person right away.

• Work safe and clean: Operate the forklift safely and follow safety, quality, and 5S practices.

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, and one to three months of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination.

• Forklift certification, and comfortable operating a forklift safely.

• Willing to learn the ERP system for inventory and work-order transactions.

Preferred qualifications

• Overhead crane experience.

• Experience in a stamping or machining plant.

What the job takes

• Reading and writing: Read and understand simple instructions, safety rules, and short memos; communicate clearly with your supervisor and coworkers.

• Math: Add and subtract accurately for counts, scrap, and inventory.

• Problem solving: Carry out simple one- or two-step instructions in standard situations, and ask when something is off.

• Physical: Regularly stand, walk, sit, use your hands, reach, and talk and listen; lift up to 40 pounds, and occasionally move items up to 100 pounds with equipment. The job needs close, distance, color, and peripheral vision and depth perception.

• Work environment: Plant floor, around presses and moving equipment. Noise ranges from quiet to very loud; hearing protection is required on the production floor, and you will work in and between our two buildings.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

What success looks like

Presses never wait on material, inventory locations and work orders in the system match what is on the floor, and scrap is recorded right.
