Human Resources Manager — Industrial Contracting

About the Position

A specialty industrial contractor in Upstate South Carolina is seeking an experienced, hands-on Human Resources Manager to lead workforce resourcing, employee relations, and HR administration for shop and field personnel.

The ideal candidate will have HR experience with an industrial contracting company and understand the demands of skilled trades, changing project schedules, and a workforce spread across multiple job sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Workforce planning and resourcing: Work with operations managers, project managers and maintain a dependable pipeline of skilled craft personnel.
• Employee relations and conflict resolution: Address employee concerns, labor disputes, supervisor conflicts, attendance issues, and disciplinary matters. Document and recommend appropriate action.
• Employment compliance: Maintain working knowledge of applicable federal and state employment laws. Review policies and practices, maintain required records as necessary.
• Employee retention: Identify causes of turnover, conduct exit and stay interviews, and recommend practical improvements to strengthen employee and supervisor retention.
• HR administration: Oversee onboarding, employment eligibility verification, personnel records, benefits coordination, leave administration, and employee separations.
• Safety coordination: Partner with safety management to develop and implement incident documentation, workers’ compensation administration, and return-to-work coordination.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of progressive HR experience, including responsibility for employee relations and workforce recruiting or planning.
• HR experience with a specialty industrial contractor strongly preferred, particularly in mechanical, electrical, millwright, fabrication, construction, or industrial maintenance services.
• Experience supporting hourly skilled trades employees, field supervisors, and multiple project locations.
• Demonstrated ability to investigate complaints, resolve workplace disputes, and handle sensitive matters professionally.
• Strong working knowledge of employment laws, wage and hour requirements, and HR documentation practices.
• Ability to balance employee concerns with operational needs while applying policies fairly and consistently.
• Strong communication, organization, and computer skills; experience with HR and applicant tracking systems preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus.
• Ability to visit job sites throughout the service area as needed.
