Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 20-bed, all-private, fully monitored cardiovascular ICU with patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 depending on acuity
• Care for a complex patient population including post open-heart surgical patients (CABG, valves, dissections, AAA), STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVRs, ventilated patients, and overflow ICU patients
• Titrate multiple vasoactive and sedation drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, vasopressin, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and others per protocol or written order
• Operate and troubleshoot specialty intervention equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan-Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, CRRT, and ventilators; manage lines including PICC, midlines, CVCs, arterial lines (radial and femoral)
• Read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips independently; all patients monitored via Philips monitoring system with monitor tech support available
• Float to all levels of care as needed; expected to take a full patient team assignment; work every other weekend and every other holiday

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 3–5 years of CVICU experience with demonstrated ability to independently manage a complex cardiovascular ICU patient population
• Proficiency with swans, CVCs, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and drip titration; must be able to function independently from day one — unit is unable to provide training for equipment or patient population
• Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation, critical thinking, assessment, and communication skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Must pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
• Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility will be subject to a local rate adjustment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ACLS certification preferred
• CCRN certification is a plus
• Experience with immediate post-operative cardiac surgical patients, VAD management, or heart transplant care is highly desirable
• Prior travel nursing experience in ICU settings with demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new environments
