Job Description

Job Description

If you have a strong vessel fabrication background and experience leading welders and fitters, this opportunity puts your technical knowledge and leadership skills to work on the shop floor.

You will oversee daily production for an assigned vessel fabrication line, organize crew assignments, maintain safety and quality standards, and keep work moving according to production schedules. You will work closely with the Production Manager, Quality, Engineering, and Material Management to resolve issues and meet production goals.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead daily shop production: Assign work to welders and fitters based on crew skills, material availability, and production priorities.
  • Oversee vessel fabrication: Monitor fit-up, shell and head assembly, nozzle orientation, internals, supports, and dimensional accuracy against approved drawings.
  • Maintain welding and quality standards: Verify welder qualifications, enforce approved welding procedures, and coordinate inspections and repairs with Quality.
  • Keep jobs moving: Confirm drawings, materials, weld maps, and work instructions are available before work begins. Escalate shortages, drawing questions, and production delays.
  • Lead safe work practices: Conduct crew safety meetings, enforce PPE requirements, maintain orderly work areas, and stop unsafe work.
  • Track labor and progress: Monitor work-order hours, review timekeeping accuracy, and communicate production status, rework, and labor variances to the Production Manager.
  • Develop your crew: Coach employees on fabrication methods, workmanship, and shop procedures while holding the team accountable for performance.
  • Maintain clear records and handovers: Ensure material traceability, accurate production documentation, and communication between shifts and departments.

What You’ll Need

  • At least 5 years of vessel fabrication experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Experience leading vessel fit-up, assembly, and welding activities in a fabrication or manufacturing shop.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, bills of material, and work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of applicable ASME and API fabrication requirements, welding procedure specifications (WPS), inspection hold points, and material traceability.
  • Ability to identify dimensional discrepancies, material defects, and workmanship issues and coordinate their resolution.
  • Strong crew leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate production and labor records.
  • High school diploma or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule based on production needs.

Preferred Experience

  • Fabrication of ASME pressure vessels and oil and gas surface production equipment.
  • Use of digital work orders, production tracking, or electronic timekeeping systems.
  • Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish or English and Hakha Chin.

Work Environment

This position works primarily on an active fabrication shop floor with exposure to heat, noise, welding operations, and moving equipment. Duties require standing and walking for extended periods and accessing fabrication areas, with or without reasonable accommodation. Required PPE must be worn.
