Overnight Delivery Driver – $24/hr + Mileage & Benefits

Maine Trust for Local News, publisher of the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, is hiring a dependable Overnight Delivery Driver to join our Circulation team.

This position, officially titled Overnight Circulation Operations & Delivery Driver, offers a combination of independent driving and newspaper distribution operations. You'll begin your shift at our South Portland facility helping prepare newspapers for delivery, then spend most of your night on the road delivering routes that need coverage.

This is a full-time employee position with benefits, NOT an independent contractor opportunity.

PAY & BENEFITS

$24.00 per hour

Overtime after 37.5 hours worked per week

Mileage reimbursement for work-related driving

$25 daily vehicle stipend when delivering routes

Up to $1,000 annually in vehicle maintenance reimbursement (eligible after 60 days)

$40 monthly cell phone stipend

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Help prepare newspapers and supplies for overnight distribution

Organize and distribute newspapers to independent delivery contractors

Drive newspaper delivery routes that need coverage using your personal vehicle

Occasionally assist with training new delivery contractors

Complete basic operational paperwork and communicate with the distribution team

Most of your shift will be spent driving independently. Routes and locations vary based on daily coverage needs, with typical driving distances of approximately 75–135 miles per shift.

YOUR SCHEDULE

This is a full-time overnight position averaging 37.5 hours per week.

Shifts typically begin between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

Most shifts end between approximately 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

Every Monday off

One three-day weekend every six weeks

Weekend and holiday availability required

No newspaper delivery on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day

Daily end times may vary depending on route assignments, weather, and operational needs. The position follows an established rotating schedule provided in advance.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Valid driver's license and good driving record

Reliable, insured personal vehicle for route delivery

Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working overnight

Enjoys driving and working independently

Flexible with changing routes and assignments

Good communication and problem-solving skills

Basic computer and email skills

Ability to lift and carry newspapers and delivery materials

Availability to work scheduled weekends and holidays

No previous newspaper delivery experience required. We provide training!
