Job Description

Job Description
A day on the floor

Your second-shift day begins at either 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM. After a quick safety check-in, you review process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to confirm dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements. You retrieve part programs from the DNC system, prep your CNC lathes or mills, and choose the right tooling for the job.

As you set offsets, you calculate feeds and speeds for a range of materials—various steel grades, copper, brass, aluminum, and bronze. You read, edit, and sometimes write G-code, then produce a first piece. Using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and when needed a CMM, you verify critical features, routinely checking your measuring tools for calibration as you go. You document results per our quality system, make adjustments, and keep production moving.

Throughout the shift, you follow work instructions, uphold all Waukesha Bearings policies and procedures, and look for Continuous Improvement opportunities. You collaborate with teammates, share tips on tooling capabilities and machine performance, and contribute to a team-focused environment built on precision, safety, and efficiency.

What you will do
  • Promote and participate in a strong safety culture.
  • Interpret process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine dimensions, setups, and operating needs.
  • Locate and download programs from the DNC storage system.
  • Follow detailed work instructions with precision.
  • Select, install, and verify proper tooling for each operation.
  • Calculate correct feeds and speeds for steel, copper, brass, aluminum, and bronze.
  • Read, understand, edit, and/or write CNC programs (G-code).
  • Apply knowledge of tooling and machine capabilities to optimize outcomes.
  • Follow applicable quality systems and perform required inspections.
  • Comply with all Waukesha Bearings policies and procedures.
  • Seek and support Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • Set up measuring equipment and routinely check calibration while measuring.
  • Foster a collaborative, team-first work environment.
What you bring
  • Hands-on manufacturing experience using precision inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges).
  • One-year Machine Tool Operation certificate; or 3–6 months related experience/training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comfort with plane/solid geometry and trigonometry; able to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Experience operating CNC milling machines and/or CNC lathes in a production environment.
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code) and CAM toolpath creation.
  • Fluency in blueprint reading, GD&T, and mechanical drawings.
  • Confident use of calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and lean practices in a fast-paced setting.
