Job Description
Job Description:
Chemical Engineering – AI Trainer
Remote | Independent Contractor | $40–$125/hr USD
About the Role
We are seeking experienced chemical engineers, process engineers, and technical professionals to evaluate how advanced artificial intelligence models perform real-world chemical engineering tasks.
This opportunity allows professionals with backgrounds in chemical engineering, process design, thermodynamics, reaction engineering, industrial manufacturing, or related technical disciplines to apply their expertise to improving AI-generated engineering solutions.
Projects may involve evaluating chemical process designs, material and energy balances, thermodynamic calculations, reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer, process simulations, and engineering optimization.
In this role, you will develop realistic chemical engineering challenges based on your professional experience, evaluate AI-generated responses, identify technical errors, and provide detailed feedback to improve model accuracy and reasoning.
This is not a traditional chemical engineering position. Instead, you will apply your technical knowledge and analytical judgment to help advance AI technology in a flexible, fully remote environment.
Benefits of the Opportunity
- Work remotely using your own computer.
- Flexible scheduling with the ability to select projects based on your availability and expertise.
- Competitive compensation ranging from $40–$125 USD per hour, depending on project requirements.
- Opportunities to work on challenging chemical engineering and process optimization projects.
- Access to required AI tools without needing personal subscriptions.
- Opportunities to contribute specialized engineering knowledge to emerging AI technologies.
Responsibilities
- Develop challenging, realistic chemical engineering tasks based on professional experience, including process design, thermodynamics, material and energy balances, reaction engineering, and process optimization.
- Create supporting materials such as process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, engineering calculations, process datasets, simulation outputs, and technical reports.
- Evaluate AI-generated chemical engineering solutions for accuracy, completeness, feasibility, and adherence to engineering principles.
- Analyze heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, reaction kinetics, separation processes, and chemical process calculations.
- Review process simulation results, operating parameters, equipment specifications, and engineering assumptions.
- Compare responses from different AI models, identify strengths and weaknesses, and document areas for improvement.
- Develop detailed evaluation rubrics and success criteria to determine whether AI-generated solutions meet technical requirements.
- Identify technical errors involving mass and energy balances, unit conversions, thermodynamic assumptions, reaction calculations, process design, and safety considerations.
- Review engineering methodologies, process efficiency, technical tradeoffs, and industrial applications.
- Collaborate with other technical experts to review and refine evaluation tasks.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of applied professional experience preferred in chemical engineering, process engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Bachelor's degree in progress or completed in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Chemical and Process Engineering
- Process Design and Optimization
- Chemical Thermodynamics
- Heat and Mass Transfer
- Fluid Mechanics and Transport Phenomena
- Reaction Engineering and Chemical Kinetics
- Separation Processes and Unit Operations
- Industrial Chemical Manufacturing
- Process Safety and Risk Assessment
- Related chemical engineering disciplines
- Hands-on experience performing engineering calculations, evaluating process designs, analyzing technical data, or interpreting process simulations.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering tools such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, Python, COMSOL, or comparable process simulation and analytical software.
- Understanding of material and energy balances, thermodynamics, process design, reaction engineering, and chemical engineering calculations.
- Ability to identify technical errors and clearly explain findings in writing.
- Current or recent hands-on experience performing chemical engineering or process engineering work.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude, or willingness to learn.
- Comfortable using cloud-based collaboration tools, desktop applications, and common engineering file formats.
- Programming, simulation, or scientific computing experience is strongly preferred and may be required for certain projects.
- Advanced degrees, professional engineering licenses, or specialized process engineering certifications are a plus but not required.
